Kevin Pietersen's England career is over after he was told he is no longer in their plans.

The 33-year-old batsman, England's leading run-scorer in all formats, was informed this week by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

ECB managing director Paul Downton said: "The time is right to rebuild not only the team but also the team ethic."

Pietersen said: "I will continue to play but deeply regret that it won't be for England."

Great batsman. Bit of a cock though. I think that his arrogance made him the player he was though, so I've still got a lot of respect for him.

Mixed feelings. He's obviously an arsehole but he's a good player. Probably the right decision, probably should have been made a lot sooner.

He played some sensational innings for England but given his undoubted talents, probably not enough. His habit of throwing his wicket away when trying to dominate the opposition was also highly irritating.

The problem though is simple. Who is better?

As much I love KP. If his presence has a negative effect on the team or players then he has to go.

No-one is better that is the issue, Bairstow, Ballance, Taylor etc... have all had a chance in the middle order and none have shown enough for me. KP is probably the only player who could take a game away from a team with one innings in a short space of time. I think we need to accept we may lose a few games now and concentrate on building a long term side.

Can he now play for South Africa, that would be a turn up if he could, and got back to his best?

    Unbelievable.

When things go wrong jealousy always rears its ugly head. No different to what happened here with Bullard.

Ridiculous decision, we're going to be left with a team devoid of any flair, playing under a captain incapable of an original thought with a dull as feck backroom staff, they'll no doubt look to replace him with someone who tries really really hard and will no doubt choose the Nigel Pearson of the Cricket world, Ashley Giles, as the next coach too. next few years as a cricket fan are going to be bloody awful

There is only 1 team in the world that would not have him in the middle order if they could. Pillocks. Really annoyed about this, I agreed with Vaughan, give him more of a role in the team make him feel loved get the best out of him, he is one of the best batsman ever to play for England, don't sack him off cos he's a bit of a nob

Because the "big personalities" did such a great job in the last series.

Mitchell Johnson's moustache had them quivering, let alone his bowling.

Anyway, we've seen all this before with KP, and he somehow got back in.

I was hoping he'd be made captain.

The Aussies will be looking at this debacle and pissing their Speedo's.

Probably whilst swigging on a VB.

    Dirty bastards.

I agree, they need someone in charge who knows the right buttons to push with him. He is a bit of a nob, but a talented one.

    They've had to do it.

Great teams don't last forever, and there's always a time where rebuilding needs to happen.

There would've been a time where the likes of Anderson, Bell, Cook, Pietersen, Prior, Broad all finished their careers.

We've now got two senior batsmen and one of those can't handle batting with the extra burden of being the captain.

    We're f**ked.
