I think you'll thrash them. It would be nice for a team like Bournemouth to come into the PL, entertain with their passing game and manage to survive but the reality is the PL will most likely brutalise them! 4-0
    Liverpool.

we're not up to that yet.

    but....

any side wanting to take itself seriously shoudl be asking that we'd out work them, out pass them and just plain be better than them so win comfortably.

The absolute minimum i expect out of LFc set up is to now put the work in on the pitch and look like we actually want it.

    Lallana to be anonymous again.

    If he starts ... <whistle>

With the case of Lallana, I'd sooner give mins to a youngster i.e Ibe or Markovic and let them develop than continue wasting it on Lallana.

But in Lallana's defence - he does perform better against weaker sides so he could be due a performance.

As a lot of us agreed before the season started, the team on Monday should be:

    ------------------Mignolet
    Clyne------Skrtel------Lovren----Gomez
    --Henderson-----Can-----Milner
    ----------Firmino-------Coutinho
    ------------------Baloteke

4-3-3 with those players at least, Can in the middle, Henderson and Milner slightly advanced, with Coutinho and Firmino supporting and big man

Wouldn't mind that - would rather put in Sakho and Moreno in for Lovren and Moreno. We have zero width on the left.

    all above true.

I'd sincerely hope we actually see this and not some clap trap with lallana at home.. I'm sure we will see firmino start on bench and lallana play.

  7. Bournemouth remind me of when Blackpool got promoted; not the fancied side with most tipping them to go straight back down, not great at defending but willing to attack, play football and give it a go. Most will be willing them on as the underdog all season too.

yeah... and blackpool got a flier and still fell apart. they just won't have what it takes all year.

Unfortunately we therefore need to expect they will have it for their first big game (total disrespect of villa fully intended) so we need to out work them.

Burnely nearly survied last year... were a bit short but only due to Leicester form and sunderland scraping out. The could defend a bit but not awesome and found it hard to score.

another team i remember being similar were derby in 2006 or thereabouts... we tonked them 6-0.. they played nice stuff but couldn't defend.

  9. Most of us agreed...? Really...? Can't say I saw any team that didn't have Sakho in it and very few knew what to expect from Gomez, never mind him playing on the left! The team most predicted before the season started is what Jimmy said...

    So...

    ------------------Mignolet
    Clyne------Skrtel------Sakho----Moreno
    --Henderson-----Can-----Milner
    ----------Firmino-------Coutinho
    ------------------Baloteke

correct up to the point where once preseaon tour started and the gomez and lovern scenarios were made clear.

when does the season start? 2 weeks ago? a month ago? I reckon some might not have agreed with it but the signs were there

however the signs are also that lallana will deffo start so I really don't know that can and firmino will... i THINK its only fitness thats stopping it... and what better way to get it than playing bournemouth at home,

  11. Fair enough with Lovren but before the Stoke game, people were still putting Moreno in at LB after preseason had finished. People were even questioning whether Gomez could play on the left. most just saw him as a CB that can play RB.

I think the team Jaffa put is the team most would predict / want now. I can't see Firmino starting yet though, I think it'll be the same starting XI as the Stoke game.

    was i?

i can't remember and not arsed to look <laugh>

I deffo said he's the best young defender i've seen since rob jones and i've been consistent on moreno being unable to defend. first preseason game was enough for me.

I think you are prob right about the stoke team for sure.

  13. No idea whether you was but then, I didn't say everyone either.

Not surprised that Moreno as been dropped as soon as we've got an alternative option.

Rodgers clearly doesn't fancy Moreno - Gomez wasn't great against Stoke. That's not a dig at the lad but if Moreno put in the same performance, he would have been slaughtered IMO.

Now Gomez at LB gives us a bit more solidity, but if Lallana is ahead of him, then we have nothing down that flank and really limits our attacking options.

So I suppose Gomez and Moreno are good contrasting options - it could have been similar to Manquillo and Clyne I reckon.

Two attacking full backs, and two solid defensive ones.

  15. Wasn't great as in he didn't put in a world class performance? Fair enough if that is what you meant but I thought he did very well so for such a young lad playing out of position on his debut for much bigger club than he'd ever played for before and live on Sky Sports too #pressure Sure, he can improve though.

Moreno did put in performances like that at the start of last season and he got a lot of praise despite also ****ing up to give a goal or two away (scoring at the other end helped too mind)

There are more balanced options at FB this year. Who was the defensive minded one out of Enrique and Moreno last year for example? <laugh>

He probably would have you are right.

Gomez did better first half but was schooled in second as stoke targeted him.

I agree on lallana offers zero width.

Gomez was a lot better defensively against Stoke (considering he had 0 protection from Coutinho) than Moreno was in a lot of games last year even though Gomez was playing with Skrtel and lovren two players who you admit are pants.

  18. Don't forget Lallana, Hendo and Milner were his protection too #allpants :bandit:

in fariness now coutinho was meant to be no 10 and lallana was meant to be left side. he managed on 2 occasions to chase back and get late challenges in but mostly he was so far out of position he didn't offer much help.

when lallana went off coutinho swtiched over there.

    coutinho at 10 looked lost.

In the context you provided (an 18 year old who had never played first flight football, let alone play left back in a competitive game) he did well against a dog of a player in Walters - he physically stood up to the challenge which was impressive.

But he did make two BIG errors IMO which could easily have cost us - as I say, if Moreno put in the same performance, he would have been slaughtered.

Random fact of the day - Sean O'Driscoll was the one who recommended Gomez to Rodgers. <ok>

Very good shout - he's definitely very talented. But really don't want him wasted at left back.
