How can anyone seriously consider Dykes as player of the season?

I'm as happy as anyone on here to see him get over his barren spell and look like settling in, but this is player of the season, not player of the last month.

(This goes for Willock also. Has played some really great stuff but hasn't played enough game-time for me to consider as Poty).

For sheer consistency over a prolonged period, it has to be between Dieng, Dickie or Barbet surely.

Personally, i find it difficult to choose between the two D's.

Will have to say Dickie, 51% to Diengs 49!

Actually I find it difficult to choose between double d’s.
(It’s not true but couldn’t resist the joke as I am clearly 14 years old)

Guess it depends on what one values - most consistent is one measure, most improved another. I guess people thinking about Dykes and Willock are maybe placing more weighting on the most improved side of things.

Just lovely to have to have this debate!! <cheers>

Hahahahahaha, lost all rationality momentarily, momentarily he cried, sorry mate that ain’t gonna wash you actually lost all rationality the moment you became a Ranger and trust me being a Hoops fan means you’ll never be rational again, it’s not allowed, it’s just not in the DNA old chap.
Just look at some of the fruit loops we got on here, including myself I might add, I doubt we’ve got any rationality between the lot of us

Without Dieng we would have been right in the doo doo. So it’s Dieng for me.

As said before isn't it wonderful after all these seasons to actually have to discuss this.

Even last year, which was not a particularly bad season for us... There was only one standout player.

This season we have had 5 players at least who could be up for it in some degree

I couldn't choose in the end, so went for Barbet because I think he won't get as many votes as he deserves and thought it would be nice if he got some votes.

Dickie could certainly get two awards player/goal

But surely the closest call is young player of the year Chair or Willock?

It's lovely this year to have so many genuine contenders for every category.

For me, Rob Dickie just edges out Seny Dieng as Player of the Year in a very, very close call.

I have gone for Illias Chair as Young Player: he has blossomed this season and, whilst we want/expect more from him, he has quickly become a key player for us. With more playing time, Willock might have got it.

For goal of the season, I loved Dom Ball's "net-buster" against Cardiff. In any other year, BOS might have got it with his fantastic solo effort against Rotherham but I'm not about to reward someone who left us in such an untidy manner. Any one of Lyndon Dykes' three nominated goals would be a worthy winner so he's got to win it and I have chosen his world class header against Sheffield Wednesday from Barbet's delicious cross.

I've gone for Dickies goal, and Dieng for player. Dickie is a very close second for player, so hope he wins the goal award

It was a great goal but I thought Ball's was even more powerful and I generally prefer goals with something more to them than just pure power, like intricate passing or a combination of great cross/header.

For me the obvious initial answer is Dieng and closely followed by Dickie and Chair.

On reflection I could add Barbet for a very consisitent season and he flourished with the three centre-back set up. Plus Willock has been a very refreshing revelation.

But for me the player of the season is LYNDON DYKES. After great penalties he really had a bad time, but he stuck at it and DID IT and is our current top scorer.

    Agreed!

It depends on the criteria for the selection.

This year we could have many sub-categories as in the Oscars.

I am very pleased that we are spoilt for choice!

I went for Barbet too, consistently good and always there.
Willock, Young player of the year by a distance for me.
BOS goal against Rotherham goal of the season, he went past a few to score that one, and at pace.

I went Chair for the youngster because for me he's contributed more to the team overall across the season, and my gut tells me he needs the accolade more than Willock.

BOS out of the running for me given how he left, so I went with Dykes' glorious header.

Having selected Rob Dickie for PoY and Willock for YPoY I decided to go for Dom Ball for Goal, a screamer and spreads the love.

Honorary mentions for Dieng, Chair, Dyke, Barbet this season. So it’s great to have so many players to talk positively about.
