No one mentions Maguire or Robertson? Must be the money we received for them and how it's been used to build our squad
Chris Chilton Tony Norman Stuart Pearson Jay Jay Okocha Robert Koren Liam Rosenior Bo Myhill Sam Ricketts Ian Ashbee Robert Snodgrass Mo Diame Tom Huddlestone Jake Livermore Curtis Davies Harry Maguire Andy Robertson Geo Evandro There are others
As a kid I have vague memories of Ken Knighton going to Wendy. Seething when we lost Stuart Pearson to Man Utd but he was good. I don’t think we ever really replaced Tony Norman and despite my all time hero being local Pete Skipper for personal reasons in terms of something different I don’t see anyone getting near Stuart Elliott cos he was absolutely brilliant in his time here before he retired.
Dave Stewart- young player who was a NI international and we made him Steve McLaren- we went up to the second tier in 85 but he went to Derby who were still at that level. Baffled me at the time. Mo Diame- similar to McLaren as we went up and he preferred to play for a team at the level we'd just left Robert Snodgrass- if we'd kept him we'd have stayed up in 2016/7 - end of chat.
Yes he was a good prospect was Dave Stewart, think he may have been the youngest player to make is debut for city,i maybe wrong though.....think andy flounders maybe the youngest, although i could be wrong on that too!!!!!
Biggest disappointment was Fraizer Campbell who did do much to get us in the Prem and then ****ed off - greedy bastard - as least he came back and made amends
Dave Stewart was 16 when he made his debut for City. Recall he may have scored on it too. Remember him scoring a very early goal at home to Cardiff when Bobby Collins was manager. We were 4-0 up at half time and Collins publicly bollocked the team for not scoring more and lost the dressing room. He was sacked a few weeks later. Stewart left City and signed for Chelsea on a free transfer.
Ash #legend Big Billy first time round. Surprised more havent mentioned him. He was near unplayable at CCC level when we sold him. Had we kept him, who knows, we might even have gone up. Good seeing Davie Stewart mentioned. A real talent / prospect. The next George Best. I heard years later about drink & others problems and injury finished him. Anyway, Ash #legend and BBW Mk1
Saddest departures...…. Probably the most naturally gifted strikers I've seen for City..... Andy Payton and Abel Hernandez...…. The most gifted midfielder.....Geovanni Best characters...….Ian Ashbee, Big Harry, King Justin Biggest opportunity missed.....not getting Ash and Rosenior on the coaching books. We've had an array of goalkeepers...……. Tony Norman.....would he have saved those shots against Liverpool in 89 that Hesford didn't ...… with all the mental repercussions that question brings...……….that thought has never left me. Boaz Myhill…...one of the best servants we've had Alan McGregor, complete nut case, but sooo entertaining, you never knew if he was going to clear his lines, or clothes line the strikers...... There are so many more.....current departures of course...….
Matt Edeson is the current youngest player to make his debut I think, 92-93, unless someone recently usurped him
One I missed and I think it was only because I had just started going regularly was Gordon Nisbet, although I’m not sure just how big a loss he was, it was just the fact he was the first to go (and to Plymouth of all places !). Another i was gutted to see leave but for a different reason was Wayne Jacobs. I’m not sure players are missed as much nowadays as to me it seems to be more of a merry go round where more players seem to just come and go, or maybe that’s just because I’m not there week in week out any more.
Yeah too many to mention. Keith Edwards x2, Big Biily, little Biily A, Marwood was significant as it was immediately after only beating Burnley 2-0 and not going up. I think with the state of the modern game, and growing old and more cynical, I just accept they are only here for their current contract.
