I am going to look on the bright side of this:- Warbs said it was our 4th preseason game, he was not really rating it as a competitive match We do not need these midweek matches in this truncated compact season, when we have a small squad It seems we can still score goals...and I am sure that Warburton will rue our misses on goal rather than our defence. We should have been 4-2 up before they got the winner. We had 2 vital players out today...Barbet and Dykes. It only fell to pieces when Carroll and Ball were removed...saving for next week no doubt. Carroll was better than we seem to remember him BOS is still hungry, Kaky is this seasons star Chair played the whole match and was making chances (no... he is not as good as Eze, but neither was Eze this time last year!) Dickie is said to have improved through the match Bad points Defence today was just the same as last seasons leaky Manning, a force going forward is a liability in defence (will anybody, that he wants to go to, come in for him at a decent price..I now doubt it) Oteh cannot seem to score goals and we have no cover for Dykes. We need a LB (so we can play Manning in midfield), another CD and a nother forward (and possibly a winger if BOS goes) It will be OK...there are 3 worst teams than us...and Wednesday start on -12
Barbet is hardly a vital player Beth. I'd play Manning in midfield or not at all. I remember Carroll as being a good player before. This time last year, Eze was in a different class to where Chair is now. Kakay is ok, but a star? Lumley must not start!!
Barbet is hardly a vital player Beth. Warbs thinks he is...and us better than Masterson and Cameron at CD...holding decision back on Dickie I'd play Manning in midfield or not at all. Me too. I remember Carroll as being a good player before. So do I ..not flashy and a bit injury prone but pretty decent. This time last year, Eze was in a different class to where Chair is now. At the end of 18/19 season Eze was a bit up and down...but I will give you first match versus Stoke was the start of EzeSuperstar...so will take that down...but still think Chair will rise rapidly this season Kakay is ok, but a star? I think he will be this year's best player Lumley must not start!! Agree..I would like to see Dieng start
We do have Wallace and Hamaleinen (sp?) who was with Finland today, who are LB's. Think Wallace is Ok if fit, and I read the Finnish guy has done ok on loan, and looked ok in the little I've seen of him. I think Manning does better when he he is playing WB in a 3 5 2, so if Warburton continues to use that formation some games, the need for another proper LB is reduced.
I remember Carroll as being strong technically but lacking in a physical presence. Hopefully he's put on a few muscles since then
After a bit of a shaky start, Carroll looked good today. Our best passing came from him in a kind of quarterback role.
That's encouraging. He's good quality for the Championsip so long as he doesn't get muscled off the ball.
Not a great game to watch, I thought we looked fragile and will get hammered a few times this season. I wouldn’t mind seeing an experienced older championship player added to the squad. I’d be interested to see the average age of today’s team.
God I hope so, doesn't speak, doesn't come off his line, doesn't anticipate shots just a very very poor keeper, and whilst he plays we will continue to concede from crosses, corners set pieces and most general shots on target
I did see that Dieng wasn’t even on the bench, which must have been disappointing for the lad. I thought we might have seen him in for a 90 minute game to assess him again and see how he could command his space. It would be horrible for him to come into the team and have the defence leave him hanging in a bad defeat. Something has to change. Maybe we need to just go format and give the lad a chance. If we do, I hope we can get behind him and he doesn’t lose his confidence. Good keepers can shine behind shaky defences though. So basically who knows what will happen!!!
Watch the highlights even the 1st goal Lumley falls out of the way. Watch decent goalies they make themselves big in that situation, my dog does the roll that Lumley succumbed to.Yes defensive frailties are there but pls pls give Dieng a run
Surely Dieng is the number three keeper at the moment. Hopefully he'll make his way to number one, but I find it odd that he's being hailed as such already when hardly anyone has seen him.
Got rave reviews at Donny, to be fair though might be just an average goalie, although commanded his box well in 1st friendly. Cant stand watching Lumley and Kelly no better, would have also been happy giving Barnes a go but been loaned out to Hibs. All keepers have had a game now so hopefully that was MWs thinking before making a decision before Saturday.
Lumley is suspect, but Kelly isn't any better. That doesn't necessarily mean that Dieng is the answer, though. Hopefully he will prove to be so.
