This one fills me with dread. I’m not betting a dime on us. they play 351 and they demolished Bolton playing 4213 and I’m afraid we’ll go the same way. We’re too high up the pitch against this system and these level of players at their place. If Cook insists on headless chicken Edwards and keeps burns on the bench again we’re double ****ed. my advice would be we need to match them in midfield and win that area which we won’t with 2 sitters 2 wingers and a man in the hole. They won’t get a pass all game… id suggest we Go 433 with Fraser, Morsy and evans in midfield, Chaplin or Aluko left, burns right, Bonne up front. It works for Liverpool with this type/blend of players. Morsy = Hendo, Fraser=Keita, Evans=Milner those forwards are good in possession and good at the press which edwards is also not that fussed about seemingly. If you don’t press you give the defence time to pick passes and don’t force the mistakes that we can hit them like lightning and punish… but Cook will do his thing and I think we’ll lose 2-0.
I actually look frwd to this one, it will be our toughest test yet and a measure as to how we & the Club have developed and how savvy PC is with his game tactics. An exciting 2-2 draw.
Not scared of Plymouth. We could do well against another team that actually wants to attack. We have threats all across the front line, if they want to give us space in the full back areas then we'll create chances. The 5 in midfield doesn't worry me, Morsy, Evans and the back line should be able to take care of that although we may want to keep our full backs a bit more withdrawn than usual until the counter attack allows for forward runs. It wouldn't surprise me if they decided to man-mark Chaplin. We have to get at them quickly, pin them in their half and they can't attack so much if they're defending. Plymouth should worry about us, not the other way around. 3-1 Town.
I wish I had your optimism SD! I am reasonably confident that if we play at our best, we are now a force to be reckoned with. Look forward to the real game watchers summaries. I stick with a good 2-2 draw. Valuable point.
I would have liked to see the tributes more than anything. Got my Sunderland tickets though. First in person game since lockdown started!
Totally changed formation, 2 out sick, and only 2 in back 7 in familiar positions. I have to agree with Hampy, and change my forecast t0 3-1 Plymouth.
He’s beefed up the defence with three at the back. I’m glad he’s not persisting with the usual team/formation for this fixture.
Before the minutes applause for Mariner the fans all held up A4 pieces of paper. 1 side of the ground had a #9 on a green background and the other had Mariner spelled out. The Ipswich fans also made a #9 on a blue background. There was then a minutes applause, nicely done.
