From a Guardian article "From 1 October, EU citizens who do not live in the UK will not be able to use EU, EEA or Swiss national ID cards to enter the country." Mrs Jab has an Indonesian passport and Dutch permanent residence. Finding out what we need for UK entry is a pain in the arse. There's plenty of advice from visa agents with pseudo official looking websites who ask for credit card details at the first question. The silence from UK immigration in response to my queries is deafening. Oh then there's the. CV19 regulations to deal with to. It drives me to drink so it's not all bad.
The biggest problem will be getting the message out. The Telegraph, Mail, Express and Sun will print any lie the Tories want them to print. Plus Tory MPs, when talking about our Brexit induced problems, now seem to be including a phrase, something like “as being experienced in other countries”, to try to further spread falsehoods about our issues being global/EU based as well, instead of just here, to con people into thinking that it is happening elsewhere. In the last few days, there has been mention of Starmer inviting Sun “journalists” to the Labour conference, which is causing some upset, especially to those MPs and members with a sense of decency. Could this be an attempt to get Murdoch back in the Labour camp and to switch his rag from supporting the Tories? It would, IMO, just need the Sun to start supporting Labour, as they did in the 90s, to swing the vote enough for Labour to win the next General Election. Just makes me want to wash my brain, thinking about what Murdoch would demand (and get) in return, especially as his support for the Tories got him the biggest prize he wanted - Brexit.
The complete absence of any benefit becomes clearer by the day. But what’s done is done. Seeking better relations with the EU is the only rational way forward; I very much doubt there’d be the slightest appetite on the continent, for the return of perfidious Albion. Anyone who has been divorced, and recovered from the trauma, should be able to tell you that it’s possible to have a healthy relationship with one’s ex partner. But turning back the clock is not an option, and continuing to fight old battles is both unhealthy and unproductive.
Joining the Single Market and Customs Union is the way to go, even the Tories could spin that to satisfy their most rabid supporters. After all, it’s what the Vote Leave campaign said would happen when we left.
At the time of the referéndum, nobody on the Leave side had a clearly thought out plan. Like many other aspects, such.as the transportatión, it has been piecemeal. It still is in the Solent área, where nothing is integrated.
Yeah, those would be a realistic aspirations. We also need to heal the wounds Brexit opened at home. Satisfying though it may be, to say Told You So to Leave voters, it doesn't get us anywhere if the two sides don't at least attempt to understand and tolerate - perhaps even respect - each other.
A turkey farmer talking about the impact of Brexit on his business and predicting shortages of British turkeys at Christmas.
Wasn’t sure whether to put this on this thread or the coronavirus, but decided that as it involved Johnson being incredibly disrespectful to the heads of other countries, by not wearing a mask, decided to put it on here. He is such a knob.
It’s because of the age old How can you tell when Boris is lying? His lips are moving. Can’t have a mask for that
