Pompey continued their 100 per cent start to the Merit League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Swindon at Furze Lane.

Harry Jewitt-White had a chance to break the deadlock from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box, only to see his effort saved.

But the Blues got the job done following the interval, with efforts from Archie Greenough and Alfie Bridgman giving them a commanding lead.

And Dan Gifford (pictured) then charged down a clearance and slotted the ball home to wrap up another three points.

Professional development phase coach Liam Daish said: “We went with a younger side and had no second year scholars because they’re preparing for an U23s friendly against Millwall next week.

“It was scrappy in the first half and the game didn’t really have any flow to it, while Harry couldn’t convert his penalty.

“We probably needed a bit more urgency in possession, but started to get into our rhythm towards the break.

“It was a lot brighter in the second half and we improved in all areas, while the players were trusting each other more with the ball.

“We started to get some good patterns of play together to really open Swindon up and Archie opened the scoring before Alfie fired a fine strike right into the top corner.

“Dan then did brilliantly to chase a lost cause, charge the ball down and keep his composure to find the net.

“We were comfortable winners in the end and never really had any problems at the back, defending well to keep a clean sheet.”

Pompey: Conor Manderson; David Setters, Dan Cadman, Issiaga Kaba, Harvey Hughes; Josh Dockerill (Spencer Spurway 64), Harry Jewitt-White; Alfie Bridgman (Howell 81), Kristian Dawson, Archie Greenough; Dan Gifford (Adam Payce 75)
