Fairly certain that as fellow south coasters ,you would be delighted for Pompey to continue to prosper again and get back into the Premier League!. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/9390973.stm
lets all hope its not another false dawn, and that these potential owners tick the two boxes 1) they actually exist, and 2) they actually have money and are not afraid to use it.
Olddellboy... am I not correct in thinking the FA are currently deciding on rule changes regarding ownership and the procedures of deciding if a buyer is genuine etc?
Hi Beddytare, I am unaware of any changes, but they are long overdue. Pompey is a classic example of how the rules need to be tightened up - a gunrunner using his dads money, an arab with no money, someone who does not exist, and a man that really wants the land and n ot the football club. By comparison our plummy voiced hockey loving daily mail loving egotist seems reasonable! only joking, of course he's not reasonable!
ODB, you may be joking but good ol' Rupert is just what Pompey need. Seriously. Someone to tighten the reigns, increase the assets and get the club on an even keel. He may even get them a new stadium but we all know where that road leads!
Le tiss or cortese, they need someone who will get them living within their means, but with the financial backing to assist growth should the need arise. To Lowe the saints were just an asset to be leverage, just like the Glasiers @ man U. Markus was the ideal owner. He wanted us to run as a business, on a sound commercial footing, but recognised that you need the resources ti invest when the time is right. A good example is the Staplewood facilities. We could not afford to invest there just from gate receipts and winnings, so need someone with capital to invest ahead of a return in the future. Lowe either did not have the resources, or wouldn't risk them.
Olddell boy and Le Tiss......You know there is a few fans that are prepared to go to war with Pompey fans now. If Lowe was to have anything to do with Pompey I think that really would cause a large riot. On a more serious note Pompey needs to have the stability of the type we have (with out the trouble makers that keep raising their ugly heads) Trouble is if they get a buyer they will most probably want to buy the ground. The current owner will probably want a lot more than the ground is worth, IE the price of a building plot. I gather from some of my Pompey mates that the stands are not in the best state of repair, or some of them at any rate. It will not be long before they have to spend a few millions on repairs etc just to get a safety certificate!! Sorry to say they do not have too much to offer these days in the way of assets. I still think they are going to have trouble in getting somebody in to pick them up, it really is a mess. Still for the moment they are surviving, long may it continue!!!!
Strewth are we so hard up for something to chat about, we have to bring up an old thread about Pompey............God things must be bad..........
I saw the heading and thought where have I seen this before, then I saw the date, is the new stadium finished yet?
I'm glad that Archers resurrected it personally, reminds me of the good old days of the virtually anything goes cross board banter of the old Beeb 606. This board is litte bit too sanitized now IMO.
