Pompey produced an improved performance at Accrington last weekend, but it is wins that the Fratton faithful want to see. So the hope is to start a run of four successive home matches by claiming a maximum haul against Bolton on Saturday (3pm kick-off). The visitors are currently sitting 13th in the League One standings – three places and the same number of points above the Blues. A run of three successive defeats was halted in their last outing, with Ian Evatt’s men scoring twice in the closing stages to salvage a draw with Gillingham on home soil. Wanderers beat Crawley on the final day of last term to secure the final automatic promotion place from the fourth tier. The club were not even sure they would start the season before that, with severe financial problems meaning liquidation was a real possibility. Thankfully, a takeover was completed to ensure the only struggles were those happening on the pitch. Pompey won 1-0 in both of that campaign’s meetings, with Brett Pitman making up for an earlier penalty miss to nab the winner at Fratton Park. TEAM NEWS Pompey skipper Clark Robertson is still sidelined with a hip problem, while Ellis Harrison (ankle) and Jayden Reid (knee) are still missing. But Paul Downing (hamstring) and Liam Vincent (shin) have both returned to light training and are nearing a return. Bolton – who include former Blues loanees Eoin Doyle and Lloyd Isgrove in their ranks – are without Amadou Bakayoko (ankle) and Gethin Jones (leg). Unreliable memories! The 2nd time I watched Pompey play was at home to Bolton in div 1. It was the season they were demoted and they lost 0-1 to a Nat Lofthouse goal. The Bolton goalkeeper was Hopkinson, the current England keeper at the time.
Left footed shot from Ronan Curtis, from a through ball by Conor Ogilvie, saved by the Bolton keeper. 25 minutes.
Nathan Delfouneso sends a dangerous ball across the face of goal and Mahlon Romeo brilliantly clears to deny Eoin Doyle a simple finish. 35 minutes.
