Yes it is a shame but the inclusion of PL academies is abhorrent to me, it is insulting and demeaning to teams like Portsmouth and so I shall fight this, the only way I can, by boycotting and proselytising online

Fair enough, if that is what you wish to do.

Yes, I just wish more fans thought the same thing because then we'd have more chance of actually winning the fight.

If L1&2 teams put strong XIs out against the U21 sides we could hopefully get them all knocked out in the group stage, leaving the way clear for proper teams in the knockout rounds

Only oñe PL side made it to the quarters, so at least the EFL sides won in the end.

Salford City face the prospect of taking just 3,000 fans to Wembley for the Leasing.Com Trophy final on April 5 - while opponents Portsmouth could bring more than 50,000 for the match.

The club are owned by Class Of 92 cohort Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham plus businessman Peter Lim having completed a high-profile takeover in 2015.

Salford have an initial allocation, which can be increased upon request, of just 3.3% of the 90,000 capacity in the national stadium.

Portsmouth beat Exeter in the semi-final through a last-minute John Marquis winner to book their place in a second-consecutive final in this tournament.

Their 2019 victory over Sunderland on penalties drew a crowd of 85,021 - the highest attended match in the UK and the second highest in Europe that weekend, while also setting a new attendance record for the Football League Trophy.

With their share of that ticket allocation limited to 40,000 a year ago, they have been handed an additional 10,300 seats for their trip to the capital this time.

Salford also took a modest following to the National League play-off final last season, with a total crowd of just 8,049 at the national stadium to watch them beat AFC Fylde and seal a place in the Football League.

Still, even 3,000 represents a sharp rise for the club, with 1,100 watching them lift the Evo-Stik North title in 2015 shortly after their high-profile takeover.

Salford, who play at the 5,106-capacity Moor Lane, have enjoyed four promotions in five years and currently sit 13th in League Two during their first ever season in the football league.

If you take up your full 50,000 allocation, that’ll presumably be a Wembley record?

On the other hand, are you in danger of becoming to this trophy, what Ireland once was to the Eurovision Song Contest? Will you eventually end up desperate to lose, just to get the albatross off your neck?

I am pleased we are going back to Wembley, Archers, as it's a great day out. I hope we win, but more importantly we gain promotion to the Championship this season. It's been a long wait.

EFL Statement: Leasing.com Trophy Final Postponed - Decision taken due to coronavirus

please log in to view this image

The EFL board has agreed that the Leasing.com Trophy final, scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, April 5, should be postponed given the escalating situation in respect of COVID-19.

This is appropriate given the scale and significance of the event to the football calendar, new sponsor Leasing.com, the EFL, both clubs involved and their supporters.

Over 50,000 tickets have been sold for the showpiece final and the EFL does not want to be in a position whereby many thousands of supporters are forced to change their plans at late notice, so the decision has been taken in the best interest of all parties.

All ticket holders will be notified of the new date as soon as possible.
