HT: 0-2 - Robins behind by two at the break Scoreline a little harsh on the home side who enjoyed a good spell for 20-30 minutes or so. Lot of work for City to come back here, but thankfully only pre-season.
6 actually. But bless your cotton socks, was it Van Morrison who wrote the song still 'carrying a torch'. PS:- More imaginary friends posts.
The good news is any suitors for Bentley would not be impressed by his part in Villa's 2nd goal. Disjointed for the first 20 minutes, poor defending for the first goal. Better team for the last 20 minutes. Atkinson, looks good, after a shaky start by King, him and James controlled the game.
FT: 0-3 - The Robins undone by high-class opposition today Game won in both boxes here: Villa razor-sharp, the Robins looking a little blunt. But the visitors are a good Premier League outfit. Onto the real stuff next week.
2nd and 3rd goals against the run of play, a poor mistake by Bentley and the 3rd when we were well on top. Took 20 minutes to get into the game but when we did we controlled most of the rest of the game, especially in midfield. Villa undoubtedly had quality and expected premier league free kicks every time they fell over and were usually rewarded by an apparent premier league referee, who also waved away 2 good penalty shouts for City, that I suspect would have been given at the other end. Pluses, DaSilva especially in the second half going forward, Baker and Atkinson. The midfield were strong after the first 20 minutes, you could see James and King knew each others games. Weimann was always a danger and all of the youngsters especially Scott and Bell looked great, we will do well to hold onto Bell, Nagy looked up for it when he came on. Minuses, sorry but I still don't see what ODowda offers totally inconsistent. Dead balls free kicks and corners are still piss poor.
3-0 was a bit harsh, Villa obviously have quality and were clinical. The new players all looked good and fitted in nicely. How good is Scott!, thought him and bell second half gave them a scare. I’ve no idea how we didn’t get at least two penalties, had they been at the other end I’m sure they’d have been given. The ref was absolutely dreadful, talk about favouring PL players. A good workout though. On to Blackpool.
Although we got beat 3-0 today I was quite happy at the overall performance,2 absolute penalties shouts turned down and their 3rd goal doubtful came from a ball out of play, you are right, what a class act Scott was, they all played with a lot more determination, Villa were the better side but we were not that far off for periods. It's one game only, we got beat 3-0, Villa looked a step up but I felt we have improved compared to last season, I'll know better after 10 games but there is a lot more to our team now , we have definitely improved, it wasn't all tippy tappy and across or backwards, there could be hope for better days down the Gate yet, time will tell.
Agree about ODowda, I would have let him go ages ago, Seems a nice lad, but just hasn’t kicked on, time to give someone else a go.
Pretty fair assessment of the game I think. I personally would like to see a striker arrive in the week. Not sure what to read into no game time for Kalas and Massengo not being in the squad. https://fb.watch/759NA267ae/
Bristol City player ratings as Robins lose to Aston Villa in final pre-season game Our City reporter's take from Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon as the Robins faithful were back at BS3 https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...ts/bristol-city-player-ratings-robins-5725744
Vyner more like a 6 than a 7, king after a dodgy first 20 minutes more like 6 than a 5, Palmer more like a 6 than a 7 and boy he has lump in his pants for ODowda more like a 5 than a 7 hardly beat anybody all game cannot remember a decent cross or corner and certainly cannot remember him beating anybody followed by a good cross. Scott achieved more in the first 10 minutes of coming on IMHO.
Strange one that but I never seen enough of the guy, but what I have seems to make him look a bee finally disappearing up his own backside. He just runs around looking good but the end product is not up to par in my books. I think there is more in there but he needs to find players to work better with and perhaps the potential new line-up will offer him the chance at higher production.
