If he’s 15 yards away from the ball and chasing backwards, then how has he gained an advantage from being offside?

I don’t get the debate about it tbh, I said watching it live he’s onside, as Mings deliberately controlled and then played the ball. The original pass attempt is irrelevant at that point. It’s akin to a striker standing 5 yards from the keeper and well beyond the last defender, and then the keeper lobs it out to a CB, who miscontrols it, but the striker has worked hard to chase back and nicks the ball off him.

It's nothing like that. In your example, the opposition have played the initial ball. The ball Mings attempted to control was played by a Man City player towards the offside player.

The rules say it's onside but we all know the entire offside rule is a joke.

I was merely using that as a comparator not saying it was an identical situation.

There’s nothing wrong with the offside rule barring them to want to measure it with the daft lines and not just with the human eye, so removing clear and obvious errors, but not forensically analyse it to the inch, with tech that’s not capable of doing it anyway.

That situation the other day was merely Mings ****ing up. He should either leave that ball as the forward is a good 10 yards off, or he clears it. He chose instead to bring it down and got caught in possession, it really is that simple.

I agree he should have let it run through to the keeper (under current rules) but I don't agree (with the rules) the offside player should be allowed to jump on his touch.

For me, you’ve got to give credit to the forward who chased back 15 yards in the hope that Mings ****s up, the vast majority of the time that’d be a wasted run, as he’d have controlled it better, and laid it off / cleared it with ease, and not had a touch like a pub player & therefore given his opponent a sniff.

Those ones where defender has ball in corner or running back towards own goal any slight touch is a foul

Would love to see a ref give a penalty to someone for that and see what happens.

because he’s on the blind side of mings. Mings can see everyone onaide and can make the decision to bring the ball down knowing there is no city player near him that can tackle him. As soon as it hits his chest and drops rodri is then 3 yards away and can make that tackle.

yes the rules say he’s not offside but anyone watching football knows that’s is massively against spirit of play.

put it this way, would this most controversy had been given to it if the lino and ref had five offside? No... couple smart alecs would have flagge dip the rule and said he’s technically onside etc, but 99% of the football world would say decision was right and we move on.

problem with that is how many times do we see defenders leave it knowing someone is offside abs then that forward walk past the ball and someone from deep run onto it who isn’t offside.

so now what does defender do? Run after it and play the guy offside on... or leave it and let a guy that’s onside potentially run after it?

defending is hard enough these days (apart from against us <doh>) don’t need yet more loopholes for attackers.

Massively against the spirit of play? Behave. It’s just the rules.

As If Mings doesn’t know there’s a City player 10 yards behind him when he goes to cut out that ball lol.

Love the justification of - had the lino wrongly flagged then no one would be arsed. ****ing hilarious, but the spirit of the game though <laugh>

Mings chested that ball down so he could start an attack and would have been quite happy to do so.
He ****ed up and paid for it, **** happens

Nothing wrong with Cheltenhams goal. Citeh players just got done by a long throw, Citeh players crying over a touch in the back.

Not to mention Fernandinho handled the ball before the striker put it in

    Not to a ref.

They are not in the business of what ifs. If you've a chance to score but flop over then tough.

The way it’s going even Villa could in theory overtake us. How **** is this? Not only Spurs and Everton but now Villa too. When we are all on 19 matches played we could be in 7th!! Barely believable. :(

The Spurs match is turning into a must win. A draw will not stop our slide down the table,

The results are actually freak tbh. After our demolition of Palace scoring 7 goals without reply how can anyone have expected this downturn? Especially against teams at the bottom of the table. Only 3 clubs have had fewer points than us in their last 5 matches. If we draw the Spurs match that will continue that awful trend hence the need for a win. For the next 4-5 matches, draws are absolutely useless.

Well, I'd say the opposite. Palace was 8 shots on target 7 goals.

Before that Brighton took 2 points off us with a listless last 30mins and a late pen and then Fulham were the better side and took another 2 points off us.

We beat spurs who went for a draw with a last gasp header from a corner and I thought finally the mentality is there.

Then we take short corners in games 3 times throwing away any chance. Etc etc.

West brom. Absolutely shambles. They tried 6-4-0 and we scored early and that should have been that but we fell apart mentally in that second half.

Never look like putting it away v Newcastle. Threw at least 5 easy and I mean easy chances away

We never looked like scoring in the Southampton game, absolutely threw one in then really didn't do much about it.

Let's not mention being 1-1 v villa u18s at half time and looking a shambles

Then utd where we gave it our all which lasted 30mins and then 10 in second half and we faded badly.

Then a debacle v burnley which saw again firmino, origi and salah miss really good chances before we throw on in again.

We are getting a few breaks but not consistently and we are certainly not taking the chances if we get a lead we are not really extending it and making it comfortable and thats been the case quite a lot all year but now we've just lost it totally and are not showing that anger.

We need to shake ourselves and be angry we need to be fitter and braver.
