Gotta be mad to take that job on. Half a squad and probly not lot to spend. Just a look at who Palace are set to lose. Schlupp Van Aanholt Townsend Sakho James McCarthy Clyne Joel Ward Cahill Dann Hennessey Wickham Some backup GK
Yeah but they are all ****. Ok maybe the first 2 might be useful bu the rest are not great. Garry Cahill is as old as time itself
Palace are trying to appoint Lucien Favre who is now sign up pending a work permit. If you recall celtic were turned down by this lad recently his clubs: Zürich Hertha BSC Borussia Mönchengladbach Nice Borussia Dortmund (had quite a good start there but the scked him a bit unfairly imo) He is known for being a youth developer and a well organised tactical manager We will see what they do i guess as they needed freshening up and letting dross and old stagers on high wages go is no harm. It does look like they need to sign a defence though
He could be really good at Palace. Not the most exciting, but very good at organising and improving teams. Doesn't seem to be able to quite cut it when it comes to winning stuff, hence why he left Dortmund (as well as style), but that's not Palace's level anyway. Has certain similarities to Hodgson really.
All they need at the moment is someone to prevent a complete catastrophe brought about by the end of an era for them. I don't know much about Favre, tbh - but from what I've read it seems he might be a good choice to prevent the wheels from falling right off.
that seems to be the case with what i read from what palace fans are thinking. the challenge is laying hands on a strong 11 for the first game. they might well offer cahill another year?
Be interesting to see how many ties have been decided on the away goals rule. I think I prefer that as it's less of a lottery ...... but penalties are better than the old method of deciding the outcome, a coin toss.
Just don’t see the need for it. You both play gone and away why give away goals extra value? Should hopefully liven games up where teams aren’t necessarily happy with a 2-1 away defeat because means they have an away goal. Should never be favourites to go through after losing your first game of a two legged tie and away goals sometimes did that.
It adds spice to games? Playing at home in second leg just got a huge huge boost. Park the bus away now, do not lose, do not concede and you get a home game to win to go through irrespective of goals you concede. Any draw at home and you get pens
They were the reasons that the away goals rule was designed for - to cut out the negative game plan. Like you say, second tie at home with that plan guaranteed you went through.
Their reason for this is apparently home sides in first legs are too cautious. We'll now the opposite will be true, 11 men back away from home Having pens at home is a massive advantage and away goals were often the only thing saving a "smaller" side. If you get beat 3-1 at least you had that away goal hope. Now it's gone. I go back in my mind to atletico game. We are 0-1 down and get the goal to go to extra time. We score and then they score and we have to chase it. 100% that game would have gone to pens not us losing another goal chasing. Away goals add drama.
Tbf a penalty shootout is also pretty dramatic. The joy and hope of the away goal will be diminished. Sometimes I think they make changes for the sake of it.
Thing that annoys me most about it is that extra time is now more likely in the knockout stage, which isn't a good thing when you think about how packed the fixtures are.
