Chris Wood appears to have a release clause, so Newcastle are looking to buy him to further screw Burnley. Probably good news for us if it drops Burnley into more trouble. Chances are Newcastle will buy their way out of trouble whoever they buy, and there's always a chance it doesn't work out.
Sky with the same story: https://www.skysports.com/football/...tle-who-have-met-release-clause-of-around-20m £20m for 30 y-o New Zealander with three goals this season? Must be nice to have money to burn!
If they sign him, they're certainly spending for this season rather than the future with the 31 year old Trippier and Wood who's 30. Our own striker rumours are a bit more modest but interesting all the same: https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/c...-transfer-agreement-for-qpr-star-the-verdict/ Not a prolific scorer and no PL experience, but has a number of caps for Scotland.
Agreed, but is DH right that they are trying to screw over Burnley? If that's what they are doing, I really hope New Castle get relegated. ( I already did, but now even more so.) £20m is a lot of money.
I think, Newcastle should have waited until about 5 days before the end of the end of the transfer window to do this dick move haha That would give Burnley no chance to find a replacement lol
Caveat that with having half a squad available for at least 3 of those and missing our most dynamic midfielder for all of them
Can't really argue with any of that. https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...-slams-norwich-city-in-premier-league-8618818
Considering he never moved his family to the UK, I really thought he'd have wanted a job closer to Germany than that! It's really frustrating when you can't say we haven't tried in the transfer market during the summer, and then you see the performances we've seen basically all season. Even at full strength we've been dysfunctional and lacked fight, and it's hard to say much positive at all about the transfers made.
Norwich were the 14th-highest spenders in Europe on international transfers in 2021, new data published by football's world governing body Fifa shows. Of the 20 European clubs to spend the most in 2021, 10 were from England. The Canaries spent £59.54m in total, with notable transfers including the arrival of Milot Rashica (£9m), Christos Tzolis (£8.8m), Josh Sargeant (£8m) and Ben Gibson (£8m). Money well spent?
Gibson was worth the money in terms of helping us get promoted last season but this season I think we have seen why Burnley were happy to let him go. He’s not a starting PL player. Rashica is worth the value but unfortunately hasn’t got the goals and assists stats that I think some of his performances have merited. Sargent and Tzolis are young with latent potential, we will only know in a couple of years whether they are money well spent I feel.
Net spend of £25m this season (Buendia the only significant incoming fee) is the 23rd highest in Europe according to transfermarkt: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/einnahmenausgaben Newcastle 4th, Palace 5th, West Ham 7th, Leeds, 10th, Brentford 17th, Watford 27th (£20.4m net spend) Southampton, Brighton, Burnley all considerably down the list with a positive net spend.
