So as a break from our major targets we go back to the League Cup with a tie against Preston who aren’t in the best form with just 2 wins in the last 8 whereas we just stuffed our biggest rivals 5 to nil at their place . Having said that no one expects any of todays team to play in this game and it is quite possible that PNE also make a lot of changes though for the sake of their fansi hope they go as strong as they can and give it a good go .

The last meeting was in 2009 in the 3rd round of the FA cup which ended in a 0-2 win for us .

 

Interesting to see team line up for this one.

Full rotation with exception of Konate? Bit light in midfield and out wide so couple youth players in there maybe. Unless Jota gets another game having not played huge amounts this season so far.

Well in theory Thiago should be back shortly. Fabinho just had a knock so shouldn’t be out long so will have Jones Hendo ox fab Thiago for 3 midfield positions.

Yes I'd give konate another game, he settled down fine 5oday so more time more benefit

Fabinho mooted for Brighton return.

As long as keita and milner are not 3months is no biggie

Clarkson is on loan with Blackburn who have not been playing him enough. 4 starts from 12, That most likely breaks loan deal rules

The rest are wingers and attackers. I doubt anyone else will come in.

 

Really happy with our back 5 going in here.

Kelleher I really rate, really good on the ground but improving on the keeping hugely over 2 seasons.
Williams I think has improved and is desperate for a chance.
Konate I think is going to be a top player, super buy. Quick, powerful, huge man, but very good passer. Vvd mark ii if he learns well.
Gomez. Needs a chance but is so quick and cultured.
Tsimikas. So impressive, assist master.


The midfield is a bit worrying as ox was awful last game but morton was good when he came in. We need a third body who is reliable.

The attack is hard to call. The game origi got in CL was hugely impressive but its rare. Hopefully minamino can grab another goal and gordan can get 90 and score

 

I guess Balagizi would be next in line. Has the physique to play and been on bench couple times. Thing is don’t want to overload the team with young players in same positions so Morton in midfield is fine with 2 senior pros around him.

 

Can't see balagizi playing. He's basically direct competition for Gordon rather than play a rcm role.

 

Cant say seen loads. I thought he’d been playing more CM though?

We’ll see. Still think Ox Jones Morton will be the midfield 3 to start.
