Preston North End v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Date - 1 February 2020 Venue - Deepdale Kick Off - 3pm Following their disappointing 0-2 reverse at the Bet365 Stadium to ‘bogey-team’ Stoke City, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is a difficult away must have at fellow Play-Off contenders Preston. Last Saturday, Stoke eased their relegation worries as Sam Clucas scored against his former club in the day's only game in the Championship. James McClean added the hosts' second in added time as the visitors missed the chance to rise into the play-off zone against a team who began the day 14 places below them. Stoke rose two places to stand seven points above the danger zone. After Tuesday evening’s matches, Swansea fell to eighth place, a point behind Preston North End, in seventh. Preston’s last match was on 21st January when Tom Barkhuizen scored twice and set up a third goal as Preston overpowered Barnsley at Oakwell to maintain their Play-Off chances. Barkhuizen's first-half double sandwiched a Daniel Johnson strike, securing North End's first away win in six games - and their biggest victory on the road for just over a year. Barnsley were unable to muster a response as they slid to their first home defeat since Gerhard Struber took over as manager in November. The Swans have played Preston on 62 occasions, winning 25, losing 20 and drawing 17. In the reverse fixture at the Liberty in August, the Swans ran out 3-2 victors: Turning to Saturday, given that Steve Cooper's Swansea are now winless in their last nine away Championship games, it is difficult to see how the Swans will return to South Wales with all 3 points. Indeed, given Preston’s form it is difficult to see the Swans returning with anything to show for their endeavours. I’m going 2-0 to Preston - hope I’m wrong
In-form striker Liam Cullen has put pen to paper on a contract extension with Swansea City. The Tenby-born forward’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of June, but he has signed a new contract through to the summer of 2022. The 20-year-old has been red hot in front of goal this term, and already has 17 goals to his name. Ten of those have come in January alone, including all four in Monday’s 4-0 win over Everton for the club’s under-23s. Cullen, who has been part of the Swans academy set-up since he was eight, was just 13 when he made his debut for the under-18s, and made his first-team bow against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in August 2018.
We will need to be nearly at our best at least to get any result at Deepdale. Heart as ever says a win for us but the head says a draw possibly.
That Tescos has a tidy works team. Finney out wide, although not as quick as he used to be! Jesus upfront Man City allowing and Elvis in midfield with his 'Blue Suede Shoes' on
