Talk about finding form when it matters most. Where do you reckon McCann needs to strengthen next season?
Delighted to see I was consistent with my grim opinion all season. I’m now absolutely positive we won’t win the league. You’ll thank me later
Management! That's not anything he's done this season, mostly, but he really needs to get to grips with his job. We've all said it this season, he's been found out by teams, he does seem to have managed it better towards the end, but earlier in the season, his continuous swap from Magennis to Eaves & vice versa was very frustrating for everyone, including the players. Those games against Shrewsbury & Burton, we weren't outplayed, we were out thought. Almost identical performances by both teams & we played VERY bad, I don't think we had a shot on target in either game if memory serves. I'm really hoping he learnt from this season in the most positive of ways. After last year I doubted him, but every once in a while, something happens with a team, hopefully his tenure with us will flourish in the same way as Dyche at Burnley. Next season we start again, it's his team, no excuses. I hope he's honest, but not really as honest as Bruce was with his "little Hull City' quotes, which at times were a bit much. Outside of that, obviously we need the eternal forward line upgrade. I was thinking along the lines of Will Grigg, but he's 30 in July, not got a good record in the Championship, seems to be a good L1 player, maybe we're the team to make him the Championship player? After seeing Eaves, not too sure, but if the price is right, we could get a few years out of him, maybe worth a punt. Only other area would be keeper, IF there's a decent keeper, PL/C'ship on offer, then I'd probably take a punt on them, if not, then no major worries, Marshall was a decent C'ship keeper, PL-NO! Ingram, probably decent in C'ship, Long....? Defence & Midfield, hold what we have, tie them down to longer than extensions NOW, then see if we can add experience, like in '08. The ability to have quality on the bench, not just on the pitch is key for success, survival, not just promotion.
Certainly had a few shaky moments but I tend to judge managers at the end of the season. Promotion with a few games to go suggests McCann eventually got the best out of what he had.
Spoke to a mate from Pompey and said I hoped they went up through play offs He said they’ve never won a single play off game !
Jesus! That's a poor record. I don't mind who goes up via the play offs as long as it isn't Sunderland
I’ve no idea whether he was right mind you. As we know many fans convince themselves the worst about their own club ...
You bastard, you've given me an ear worm now. I pronounced it as a word when I read it, and was expecting a couple more 'dna's' and then a BATMAN...
I didn't post on here, but never thought we'd get anywhere near automatic promotion. The absolute capitulation and lack of fight just showed a club in deep decline. I had finally given up my membership, not because of relegation (seen far worse) but the attitude of the owners, that lack of fight and the apparent general malaise around the club, which I just couldn't see turning round. I guess it was also obvious we wouldn't be able to watch for a while (and it wasnt clear whether payments would be suspended). So my protest went unnoticed. I have to admit it was a fantastic achievement to get promoted, and will definitely be 'rejoining' next season.
