If being happy is frowned upon in that neck of the woods my best friend and I will give Qatar a wide berth thank you very much.
@Archers Road ^^ Sorry mate, Archers has already done that one. I couldn't remember my old money, pounds, shillings and pence tbph.
Yeah, just reading through the thread and saw archers post a few seconds after i quoted you True story... When i was an apprentice i worked with a bloke called "bob" (Robert), everyone called him four and half. One day i was working with one of the other guys and said "why do you call bob four and half?". His reply cracked me up, four and half p youngun, he aint a full shilling EDIT.... For context the changed to "new money" had not long happened.
Think I remember some of it, so a shilling was 12d ? The only reason I think I remember that was because of thruppenny bit, which then became sixpence (x2) hence then a shilling. Then half a crown, that's when I get lost again.
Half a crown was 2’ 6d (two and six) 12.5p in new money. **** knows how I remember this stuff. Loved those old thruppeny bits though, you could get handfuls of sweets for one of them.
I've still got a few (used) old coins, absolutely no idea where I got them from. Just looked at them, three old farthings from 1919&44,46 couple of thruppeny bits 1960&61, one shilling 1951, one old penny 1900 and the good ole sixpence! Don't know why I've kept them really.
