They've also had three cup games, although their cup run ended last Wednesday night with a 3-2 loss, in a replay, against Fulham. They appointed Tony Mowbury as their new manager at the beginning of the season, after Alex Neil left them to take over at Stoke. He's so far steered them to a decent league position, as they currently sit a place and a point outside the playoffs, but do have a game in hand on Watford, who are a point ahead of them in sixth. Their top scorer is Ross Stewart, with 11...then they have two players with 7, and then Jack Clarke with 6 in all competitions. Another one who played for us and didn't look anything special, but is flourishing elsewhere...perhaps a tad harsh as he was only 19 when he made six appearances for us. As for us, well, the reason I am doing the match day thread on Saturday evening is so I can have a day not paying any attention to football matters tomorrow. Really disappointed in today's performance and result. The goals we conceded were down to really poor defending, despite having enough manpower at the back...they just found so much space, particularly for their first. I'm not keen to jump on the 'Critchley out' bandwagon just yet, but I fully understand why many have. We haven't improved, and have been playing some pretty dire football in the last few games. 1 win in 10 is just not good enough. To rub salt in the wound, Willock limping off isn't a good sign, and if he and Dykes are both unavailable for the next few games it is hard to see where the desperately needed goals are going to come from. Team news QPR: Chris Willock and Jake Clarke-Salter may miss out, with Tyler Roberts pushing for a return. Sunderland: Lynden Gooch, Ross Stewart, Corry Evans, Niall Huggins and Elliot Embleton will all miss out for the visitors. Pre-match talk Neil Critchley (QPR head coach): “Sunderland are a really good football team. They’ve got lots of technical ability in their team and quality at the top end of the pitch. They had good win at the weekend, they’re right up there in the table and look like a team playing full of confidence. “We’re expecting another tough game.” Tony Mowbray (Sunderland Manager): “They (QPR) have some really good footballers, they have experience as well as young talent, I think playing at Loftus Road is unique, it creates its own environment but it’s a trip we have to look forward to and relish, I am hoping it’s going to be a good football match and one we can come out on top in.” Hats off to you, and as always... ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
My new next door neighbour, a nice bloke, is a Mackem. I’ve advised him that the three points are all theirs on Tuesday as long as they turn up and put us under a tiny bit of pressure.
Hopefully not another St. Valentine's Day massacre, but I have a sneaky feeling that we may just get off 999's loser list and pull this one off with Jamal Lowe scoring a couple and perhaps that new signing from Bristol City adding another, 3-1 R's I say.......always look on the bright side of life....Easter is just around the corner, please come to our assistance St. Jude, our blessed patron Saint of lost causes.
