Sunderland visit QPR in the 4th Round of the Carabao Cup (League Cup)
    QPRvSAFC.GIF
Last time out Sunderland lost to Charlton and QPR lost at Peterborough
The Black Cats lost their unbeaten home record on Saturday to a resurgent Charlton side. Lee Johnson is expected to give the youngsters another run out as Sunderland look to progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup. Elliot Embleton is suspended for one more match but should be available for the Rotherham game.
QPR were beaten by Peterborough, llias Chair giving QPR the lead just after the break, but goals from Harrison Burrows and a 91st-minute strike from Siriki Dembele gave the hosts maximum points at Weston Homes Stadium.
    Lee Johnson:
“I felt that there was a penalty for us in terms of their centre-half making a brilliant save. It's outside the line of the body. Is it a bit close to the body? That might be a mitigating factor but not when you speak to the referee and he says the arm is behind his body.
“Was it a foul (on Flanagan for the goal)? I don't know, there's two hands on him. It would have maybe been a bit soft, considering the level of contact he'd allowed through the game.
“It was like a judo game at times and he's set himself a precedent by allowing that. Then I felt that Lynden Gooch was in on goal and he allowed contact which could have been a red card.”
“There were some key match decisions that went against us today, which were unbelievable really, but we didn't have enough quality in the final third. We've been blessed with some wonderful play and deliveries in the final third (in other games this season).”
    Mark Warburton:
“When we did get the ball out wide the quality wasn’t good enough, especially in the first half. We needed to be better in that respect.”
“We got the goal, and believe it or not we’d worked on that in training as we felt that there was a weakness there – but then we concede a really soft goal.
“They had two or three really good chances before they scored. We didn’t take care of the football and we were loose at times at the back.”
"We didn’t do enough to win the game, it’s as simple as that, but if that’s the case, be frustrated and come away with a point.
“We needed to manage the game and we didn’t do that. To lose our shape at the end was not acceptable by us.
“That’s the frustrating thing. When we play well we say so, but we let ourselves down today.”

    My two pence:
A frustrating performance against Charlton but not the end of the world. It was always going to be difficult once Adkins had been sacked. I’m not sure about this one, but I think that Lee Johnson will make a lot of changes and give the young lads another chance and focus on preparing the squad to face Rotherham. QPR could rest some players too, that above was the team that played at the weekend.

I’m going for a cheeky 1-0 away win.

Other than getting Embletons third game out of the way I can't really get excited about this match.
Obviously hope for a good result, especially since we've sold out the away end apparently so would be nice for them to see us win.
Give some kids a go and see where we end up. Great thread again RTB.

Some of our best football has been in cup games when the pressure is off.

Of course the league is important but we know we're going to be in these competitions before the season starts.

The players, the manager and the incredible support enjoy these games and the roof will come off if we win.

Haway the Lads, just play football and entertain the supporters ...

... we don't demand a team that wins, just a team that competes <laugh>

    As for the game Meh...

Perhaps a chance for some players that they are up for it both physically and mentally from the whistle and so should be in the starting 11 for league games.

    Great thread as usual @RTB.

Good chance for those not starting in the league to stake a claim for a starting place, hopefully they put on a good display for those travelling

A real tough game but also a good opportunity to see where we’re at. Do us proud lads.

Lee has to put the full team out, he wants us to progress apparently, i would rather be playing Sheff W tomorrow night, cos of the balls up on Saturday, these cup runs are costing us again we not going to win the league cup are we, we should play Oxford the same week as the Bradford game with 2 different teams. This could be a really dodgy 3 games coming up.

Maybe my heart ruling my head but I fancy us to get something out of this.
Saturday was disappointing and a bit worrying. Its not the first time we've failed against a big bullying team who have pressed us.
A few players were out of sorts and tactically LJ got it wrong.
But a good chance with the pressure off for players and manager to get back on track.
sneaky 2-1 win for the lads

    Ooh, ooh
Across the ocean, across the sea
Startin' to forget the way you look at me now
Over the mountains, across the sky
    Need to see your face
I need to look in your eyes
Through the storm and through the clouds
Bumps in the road and upside down now
I know it's hard babe, to sleep at night
    Don't you worry
'Cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Through the sorrow
    And the fights
    Don't you worry
'Cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    All alone, in my room
Waiting for your phone call to come soon
Anf for you, oh, I would walk a thousand miles
To be in your arms, holding my heart
    Oh I
    Oh I
    I love you
And everything's gonna be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Through the long nights
    And the bright lights
    Don't you worry
'Cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-ai-ai-a'ight
You know that I care for you
I'll always be there for you
I promise I'll just stay right here, yeah
I know that you want me to
Baby, we can make it through, anything
'Cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-a'ight
Through the sorrow and the fights
Don't you worry, 'cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-a'ight
    Be alright, ai-a'ight

More up for this match than I would be for pizza cup even though we have less chance of winning it. Im going for an SAFC win 2-1 with our 2nd team. Dont know how seriously QPR will take the match.

It would be great to be in 1/4 Final draw.

Having said that if you said 1/4 finals or 4 points from next 2 away games, I would definetly take latter

A good chance to give those returning from injury Gooch, Alves a run out. Would love to see an away win in front of our travelling supporters but I just think QPR may have a little to much for us. I really hope I’m wrong but Saturday and then next Tuesday are far more important games in our season. Give it a go lads give your all and that will do me. :emoticon-0148-yes::emoticon-0165-muscl

Great thread as usual. Hopefully some decent game time for the lads who are short of match sharpness. Got a feeling for a penalty shootout win.

We should get a better ref tomorrow night, as it is rigged we know now, i can say it Lee johnson cannot it seems this will go on and never get out of this division, the refs are poor, and on a different subject why were the sprinklers on at half time at the SOL ? ruining the pitch further, i wonder what the intelligence level is on all concerned in league one. He has to put the best team out as well or what is the point of getting through ?. Arsenal/WHU reserves h in the 5th round please
