It would be renamed Dover though. Maybe they could rename it Dover Tigers to try and stress some continuation but I don't think that would convince most lol. Actually that would be similar to what Milton Keynes did by taking the Dons name.

And that is exactly why everyone should be fighting the stupid name change idea. Once the emphasis is on the nickname and not the location the door is opened for moves like in the States.

Rotherham County merged with Rotherham Town to become Rotherham United in 1925. Rotherham United took over Rotherham County's league fixtures.

It's being made to look ridiculous now. Both moved teams are getting low attendances, with the opposition support even outnumbering them.

The former San Diego Chargers are playing in a local football stadium that holds about 27,000 but can't sell out. Someone flew an airplane banner over the stadium saying they have the worst owner, someone buying a billboard doing the same. The ref even calls the wrong name in the game. The NFL are getting plenty of bad publicity from all this, as it looks like people aren't just about to flock to games in LA after all. The small stadium has prompted the owner to charge high prices both for tickets and parking (which alone is 100 dollars), giving a whole new meaning to the name 'the chargers'. The Rams team are playing in a bigger stadium so have even more empty seats. Having fled LA once I guess people just can't be bothered to welcome them back.

Evidently, the Chargers' media guide includes a line about how they are working with the city of San Diego on a new stadium. One would think they'd know better than to simply cut and paste from last season's media guide! Oh, the ineptitude!

After Sunday night I'm feeling very well disposed to the Chargers. Very generous hosts!

I spotted that but wasn't sure if they were hinting at a u-turn and were actually planning on moving them back to San Diego. If its actually a cut and paste job then that's just even more embarrassing for them.

LA is just not a great NFL market, the teams have been moved that often and there's so much competition from other sports that people just aren't interested in going to games, they'll watch the NFL on TV and go to college games instead. It might change with the new stadium, but historically support for the NFL in LA has always been poor, unfortunately the NFL seems intent on keeping teams there at the expense of other more genuine markets.

It's quite bizzare to suddenly go from no team too 2.
They've had 2 teams there before and they moved out.
Crazy ****ing American way of sport ain't it.

TV broadcasting revenue trumps all, sorry to say. And it ain't just an American problem anymore.

Exactly, just look at Premier League clubs, they don't need to sell out games when they're getting £100 million from the TV rights alone.

As the NFL is becoming increasingly more popular globally I can only see it getting worse.

I sadly agree. For the second season running I am "taking a knee" on the NFL (the only game I watched last season was the Super Bowl). I was already fed up before all this present nonsense started (enough about that . . . I'll honor no politics in this forum). I now prefer watching my football (soccer) in the morning, and having beautiful autumn Sunday afternoons free to fully enjoy.

They have to put it to a vote of all the other owners if a team can move.
If it's a yes vote the clubs get something like £5 million each so it's a foregone conclusion.

Yeah it's like football ain't it over here.
It's rammed down your throat and you get fed up of the shenanigans.
I just shove the NFL on at 6pm on a Sunday over here and them few hours I watch Red zone then that it till the next week .( unless the Patriors play) on another night and I record highlights.
    And also Thanksgiving day.
Otherwise I just shut off from it.

How can you support a team if they can just up-sticks and move to another city of they get a better deal ?

Maybe that's why the College sports are so massive over there?
The NFL franchises can drift all over the country so can't surely be something you permanently support when they move on, whereas I assume the Colleges stay in the place they've always been so you'll get the local support plus the support of people who've been at the College?
Makes more sense than supporting a nomadic team

Maybe one of our US correspondents can comment?

Say it again, this is absolutely why everyone should be fighting this Hull Tigers nonsense.
