No I haven't posted this on the wrong board, Spurs have announced that the first NFL game to be played at (New) White Hart Lane will be the Oakland Raiders vs Seattle Seahawks on the 14th of October. I always said to friends and family that having never really watched NFL before, whichever teams play first at the stadium, I'll choose one of those to officially support. I'll also hopefully go to the game and experience the NFL matchday. Any NFL fans here? Is it great for you that one of these sides will be playing here or are they a rival? Anyone like me going to begin supporting one of them (or another side) now that we'll be having some form of affiliation with the NFL?
I don't know enough to make a substantial comment, but the Raiders have moved in the past and plan to do so again soon. The Seahawks appear to have been based in Seattle for their entire history. Given the rumours about a London franchise being based at our ground, you might want to wait and see if we have a team created here first.
I guess we should be showing avian solidarity and support the Seahawks, given they are coming to the home of the London Soccer Chickens. < usasoccerguy >
Hadn't heard about that. Interesting. The London Hotspurs. The Tottenham Cockerels. The London Lilywhites.
There's a Wikipedia entry for the whole thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_London_NFL_franchise Some suggestion that Fulham's owner is pissed off at Levy too, as he owns the Jaguars and it might interfere with his plans.
I think we've made a mistake here....NFL games are usually given with the away team first so it should be Seahawks v Raiders
Someone explain the rules and I might just watch the odd game so I can admire our brand spanking new stadium
Oakland have a reputation for being the Stoke of the NFL, and if that wasn't bad enough their mascot is pure nightmare fuel please log in to view this image
The London Fighting Cocks - or London Gamecocks are probably out .....could we just be The London Spurs? There's a Panthers in both Ice Hockey and NFL in the states, so the existence of the San Antonio Spurs in Basketball shouldn't stop anyone else from using that name. The Americans will probably want something they see as identifiably English. We've had the monarchs, so.......'The London Harry Potters', The London Warm Beer'ers' or 'The London Can't Win a War Without Us'ers'?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_National_Football_League_franchises London Heralds? London Legion? Tottenham Tigers/Tornadoes? British Bombers/Bulldogs? London Lilywhites? Meh.
The London Punks? The Hoxton Hipsters? The London Fires? The British Empire? That should go down well.
