Rangers' Fixtures & Results, Season 2020-2021

SPL (SPFL1), Saturday 22/08/2020 : Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

That was a much more direct performance from Rangers today, the dithering play of late was gone. It seemed a touch frantic at times, but I am not complaining. Second half goals from Roofe and Kent won this match, but there could have been more than just two today.

I will update all the other scores from this weekend in this post.

24/08/2020 : The Roofe (not 'Roffe'!) Itten partnership is worth continuing and I hope we see it again at Hamilton. Whether we will see Morelos again seems doubtful.
In any event, let us see Rangers win again, with another clean sheet as a bonus, on Saturday.

Another win and 6 clean sheets in a row for Rangers, equalling Celtic's 1906 record.
We should have had more than the 2 goals scored today by Hagi and Tavernier, as several chances were missed. We were denied a penalty too.

Lincoln Red Imps (Gib) v Rangers, KO 16:00 hours - RTV.

13/09/2020 : Rangers (sans Fans) travel to Gibraltar for this one-off match while RTV will cover it worldwide from Ibrox. If needed, there will be extra time and penalties to determine the result.

Rangers' Third Qualifying Round opponents will be one of the two shown below, but let us get through this one first. We should progress on Thursday, but stranger things have happened !

Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round Thursday, 17/09/2020 : Lincoln Red Imps (Gib) 0-5 Rangers

That was a comprehensive victory in what had all the atmosphere of a training match. The goals came from Tavernier, Goldson, Morelos, Defoe and finally Morelos again.
The game and result far exceeded the quality of the video, which was like watching an illegal stream.
It had blocking, smearing, false colouring, buffering interrupts both video and audio, all capped by a blue screen blackout just as Defoe scored our 4th goal ... RTV must do better !
I had purchased this match earlier today but every link from Rangers led me to the purchase page instead of the video. It was only when I clicked on the faded out Lincoln Red Imps v Rangers match that the video opened and played, with the game 2 minutes old. Today's match was listed under Rangers v Ross County - which was marked as 'Purchased' !

Our next tie will also be on RTV ... away to Willem II ... after their victory yesterday.

Ties take place on 1 October, with extra time and a penalty shoot-out if required. Winners advance to the UEFA Europa League group stage.

Per Sportsound and my Twitter feed today. Rangers missed early chances then fell behind after 22 minutes, but equalised (Morelos) at the end of the 1st half. Arfield gave us a 2nd half lead, but Hibernian equalised (offside not given) and it ended level. So we play 7 games before conceding a goal, then two come along at once. Back on top of the table, but two points dropped.

20/09/2020 : I checked out our opponents' name and share my findings and sources below.
Rangers' opponents are named after King William II of the Netherlands (born in 1792 and Reigned from 1840 to 1849) and were formerly known as Tilburg.
They are not named after William II, Prince of Orange, nor after his son King William III (William II in Scotland), who Reigned in Great Britain from 1688 to 1704 and is known colloquially as 'King Billy'.

23/09/2020 : Despite the problems RTV had with Lincoln Red Imps, I have persevered and purchased this match today (£9.99) which, per Rangers' website, will be exclusively live on RTV tomorrow.

 

Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round, Thursday 24/09/2020 : Willem II (Ned) 0-4 Rangers

That was a good open game with an even better result and RTV provided a service to match it. Our four goals came from four different scorers, Tavernier (penalty), Kent, Helander and Goldson and McGregor guarded our goal well to keep the clean sheet. Tilburg did get the ball in our net late on, but it was correctly disallowed for handball, which the linesman had noticed and flagged.
I cannot help but wonder, if this had been a SPL game, would we have got our penalty and would that handball have been noticed ?

Our next Euro opponents will be Galatasary at Ibrox, after their win tonight : Galatasary 2-0 Hadjuk Split
