From my lounge window on a hill just across the estuary from Dartmouth, I'm looking down at 5 of them now. One moored just off Brixham, two more parked off Paignton, and another two just off Torquay in the distance. I was in awe of quite a few parked and apparently abandoned off Poole/Bournemouth when I was down that way last July, but this lot all in one glance from my window brings it home. Massive stationary structures manned by skeleton crews waiting to start work again. Got no time for cruising myself after a borefest around the Med about 20 years ago (never again!), but have to feel some sympathy for the operators and dependent crew, many of whom have been exiled from ther homes for over a year now. Let's get them working again even if I personally can't stand the thought of another cruise, because many of these guys from Indonesia and the Philippines support their families back home through their work around the world. ......and yes, I have had a few drinks.
Thought you'd have been in the woods watching the mating rituals of the local wildlife by now sparkey. Didn't know you were into heavy metal. Hope you're having a good time
Nah, that's for later in the year. Nothing much happening around here where I am at the mo, but Torquay was heaving yesterday afternoon - glad to get from there. Ended up in Cockington Park just up the road to give the dogs a run - no comments please about its' name......
Hello chaps - I bought a flat in Gibraltar earlier this year (part of my Brexit-beating plan) and there is a huge decommissioned cruise ship at permanent anchorage in the marina there. It's called the Sunborn and its been rebranded as a 5-star luxury hotel, restaurant and casino. Sunborn Gibraltar | Official Website | 5 star Hotel in Gibraltar I've not actually been on board but fully intend to when we are allowed back out there later this year.
Had a great holiday there in the early 70's, staying at Catalan Bay. I can still remember the sand on the beach was so hot I burned my feet. Main Street was thriving and a very British feel to it. In those days the border with Spain was closed and in the evenings we watched the police patrol boats intercepting what I took to be smugglers crossing between Spain and Gibraltar.
