He stands at nearly six foot three, He took us to the Premier League, He got the ball, he took the piss, He wore the shirt of Matt Le Tiss, Rickie Lambert, Southampton's goal machine. Rickie, thank you for everything you did for Saints, from the bottom of League One, to the top half of the Premier League. Enjoy a long and happy retirement, but if you fancy taking on a coaching role there is a club on the South Coast who badly need some direction in scoring goals!
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/15570466.Rickie_Lambert_announces_retirement/ Difficult to find words to express the sheer love for this guy, we have been blessed with some gems, he is at the top of the list. We could really do with another of his kind right now
Who could possibly have imagined this statement when he signed from Bristol Rovers? For those of us fortunate enough to have followed Saints during those years of JPT, double promotion and establishing themselves in the PL it was a hell of journey. We saw players come and play key parts, but fall away when the PL became a reality. We saw others blossom from Division One players to strong Premiership ones. But nothing gave me more joy than seeing the development of this jobbing striker into an international. He should be an inspiration for any young player, and I'd love to see him involved at SFC.
We use the word legend too easily these days but Rickie was exactly that for our club. A great character and role model. Get him back in some capacity.
Top bloke. One of, if not my favourite Saints player ...ever. Time to put these out here again as well. Two of my most cherished possessions. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Good luck Rickie in whatever you do, and thank you for the journey, the smiles and the goals.
Truly shocked. I know he's struggled since leaving us but for such an SFC legend to retire so soon, seems such a shame. Anyway, arise Sir Ricki Lambert you did magnificent for us & I hope we did the same for you. You're certainly up there with my all time greats.
Are you gr00031 over on saintsweb ? Ps love lambert.never celebrated a goal as much as the goal v scotland
Envy is the least attractive of all human emotions. You do realise how much everyone now hates you, don't you? Seriously great memorabilia. Priceless.
People on here who say he's their favourite player ever may have only been supporting Saints for a few years. My support goes back decades, and much as Terry Paine, Ron Davies, Mick Channon et al et al .. were favourites, no-one quite got to me like this feller. It has to be the rags to riches tale that was reflected in the club's fortunes. That comment on his shirt above "I got you into the Premier League" would have been arrogant from anyone else. But it is his Southampton legacy.
Agreed, been a Saints fan since about 1978, so quite a newbie, but what a journey we all went on with Sir Rickie.
