Just heard the news - he was from well before my time but was a legend of the club. RIP to Leicester's only world cup winner.
While people die every day its sad when someone you have a connection with goes. Having moved to NZ when I was very young did manage to see Banks play for Stoke City when they toured out here. I cant remember him in a City shirt as it was 69 when I started but well aware of his legacy. Great man and player.
Best keeper I ever saw. I remember watching him in my first ever game in 1961 before he became England's number one, competing with Ron Springet for that position.
Along with Shilton the rest this club has such a proud tradition of goalkeepers. Shame he was way before my time (I started when it was the Ian walker days) but such a legacy with being our only World Cup winner (I think).
I don't think there's many would argue with you on that. I saw Shilton make his first appearance in a midweek friendly against Rangers at Filbert Street when he was only about 16. Speaks volumes about the lad, but I'd still have Banks as my number one.
Shilton was awesome ... any cross into our box was as good as giving us the ball back ... Banks was arguably even better ...
What for having such an advanced medical department. They have probably treated James for every injury possible
Kasper Schmeichel was a pallbearer for Gordon Banks funeral today. He had 4 goalkeepers from the clubs he represented carrying the coffin Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester), Joe Hart (England), Jack Butland (Stoke), Joe Anyon (Chesterfield) RIP our world cup winner
