Michael Caton-Jones, who directed the film "Scandal" went on to direct a film that I worked on, "The Memphis Belle" It was eye-opening to say the least at how a piece of cardboard, painted by clever people, can look just like a real plane until you're just a few feet away. I remember one scene filmed in a quiet corner of the airfield was three- times halted because a load of extras off shot were noisily kicking a ball around. After the third interruption Caton-Jones in a real strop got them bussed to the other side of the airfield. I was sat in the director's car with George, his driver, it was a very hot day so all windows and roof-light were open, when just as filming had been started, the very loud carphone went off, George put it on speaker and a woman said, "Is Michael there with you?> George said, "Yes but I don't think he's going to be happy to hear from you!"
