I can`t see this season being completed, the logical solution is to declare the season null and void and wiped from the record books. That means no trophies, no promotion or relegation, no European football next season as it would not be fair who qualifies and the Euros to be put back a year. Divide any outstanding prize monies up equally and as fairly as possible, then start again fresh next season with the same leagues as this season. You also have the possibility that some players may be infected in a month or twos time, and therefore unable to play, which puts some teams at a disadvantage, it would be totally unfair. The whole thing is a one giant mess, it would be tough on teams currently leading their respective leagues, but the easiest solution is to just void the whole shabang for this season and be done with it.
For the good of the footballing community it needs to be cancelled. 1 - We get to erase this horror show of a season. 2 - Liverpool don’t get the title. 3 - Leeds don’t get promoted. It’s win-win all around.
I think this is what will happen. A fairer outcome would be to suspend until August and then finish the season by mid October. Then start a truncated league season by dividing the PL into two groups of 10. Each team to play all the teams in the other group home and away. Then the top five teams in each group play each other home and away to decide the Champions and European places. While the remaining teams contest the relegation places. So a truncated 28 game season. Bin the Carabao cup for that season and there should be time to play a full FA cup and some sort of truncated Champions and EuropaLeague....the latter would depend on UEFA being able to agree with all its constituent FAs which may be too tricky. If all this year's competitions are abandoned then qualifiers for next year's ones have to be the same as this years.
Disagree...this season should be simply be voided. Trashing a future season makes little to no sense. These are extraordinary circumstances and to drag this seaon on is a mistake. What happens with a transfer window? Are new summer signings going to be allowed to play in an extended season? How do we play shorter season fairly? We play every team twice but a 28 game season will not allow this...so that season will be tainted in terms of Champions, CL and EL placings and relegation placings. To kill a cup competition is a mistake too...it'll never return.
They will be desperately figuring out a way in which they can declare Liverpool champions that`s for sure. Whether they can is another matter, but nobody will be surprised if they somehow get Pool over the line.
Is everyone ready for the big game later? The Russian Premier League is also continuing, where everyone should be cheering on Rubin Kazan today. They face Arsenal Tula at 4pm. There's no connection between the two clubs, as far as I know, but **** Arsenal.
The league used to play 2 games in 2 days or 3 in 4 days a while ago....when men were men and hamstrings weren't going left, right and center! Things CAN be done if fingers are removed!
The level of athleticism in the 50s and 60s was much less than now. A game took less out of them in those days.
They'd soon slow down if they had to play 3 games in four days. When I was a kid we used to play every night.
When I used to play for the school old boys (Saturday afternoon Southern Amateur League), we occasionally ended up with a "double header", normally at the end of the season. Two consecutive matches. And we had to save some energy for the post match drinking. We were men! Fat, drunk men.
The problem is we have to make a choice Saltypool denied the league -or- West Scam get relegated ...of course, the thought of L666s getting promoted in their place pushes people towards the former, doesn't it?
Whatever decision the leagues come to they'll face a legal challenge from those that get stuffed by it.
The National League has suspended all games in line with the other divisions in the country. Makes sense.
