Potter would be mad going to Chelsea. He has better players where he is. Chelsea spent a huge amount, but none of their signings look like an improvement. It amazes me that we were getting rockets in the media for our recruitment yet Chelsea just seemed to buy whoever they could or who were being linked with other teams. I can’t honestly say that any of their signings look any good. Proper scatter gun approach. Potter will be the next England manager I reckon. Though is that a worse fate than going to Chelsea?
I think the lure of a "big club" will be too big to turn down. But I agree that Chelsea is not where someone like him should go to. Chief brought up the idea of us going for him last year and I was very impressed reading his full profile on wikipedia. The man literally studied emotional intelligence for goodness sakes! I can certainly see why Chelsea is seeking something fresh and turning to him.
The single most important consideration for Potter is that an opportunity like this might not turn up again in his career. The opportunity to manage a very big club and test himself against the very best managers and of course the little matter of setting himself for life.
We know what the end game is that he will he gone just like the others before him. But that point about a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially the money side cannot be passed.
I still think it's a bit of a leap. The thing is, he's never had European football. At all. I think it's suddenly a bit much, jumping straight into the CL group stages and being expected to be a success. Still, the money is good I suppose. Just reckon a Europa league or conference club would be better. Get there with Brighton even, and have a season doing it with them. Or replace Rodgers at Leicester.
In other news, how ****e are Liverpool at the moment? I know they'll claim injuries, and it's clear Henderson make them tick (words I didn't think I'd ever say), but who else, Matip? Really! It's brilliant how utterly ****ing **** van Dyke is.
It is interesting that City is already having to deny “special clause” in Haarland’s contract. Of course they have clauses in there which allowed them to get him for peanuts by today’s standards while they artificially edit their books for FFP. Football overall has become so rotten and killed the authenticity of the sport. I bet United will also be eventually sold to some shtty Middle-East venture fund that need a new pet. You know that the sport is decisively a joke when a season is paused to host World Cup in the middle of the desert in November.
Just finished watching Barcelona against Real Madrid to get a feel for what to expect when we play them. Gavi and Pedri are without a doubt impressive talents at 18 and 20 respectively. de Jong was also composed in building up play. It will be a massive match against them. Lastly and not so important; it is shocking to know that the best two teams in Spain had to travel 8 hours to The King Fahd Stadium for this game. What a sad spectacle football has become!
I suppose it's like playing the charity shield in Dubai or something. Irrelevant game. Mid season in Spain though, rather than pre season.
