And that explains why this is suddenly popular again:

    Oh, dear. <doh>

Very light on details, at the moment. He's denying it completely and is still playing back in Brazil.
Got a couple of appeals before he gets locked up and even then it would rely on the authorities extraditing him.
This will go on for ages.

He's been found guilty so until any appeal process is guilty in my book. However, Brazil will not allow extradition of it's citizens, so the Italians are pretty much ****ed whatever the outcome and that piece of **** will remain walking around free. But it will mean he can never leave Brazil again, because as soon as he steps into a third country he can be arrested.

If he's found guilty of rape though, wouldn't Italy have the right to have him extradited to spend his sentence in an Italian jail ?

They can attempt it after his appeals have been exhausted, apparently.
With the lawyers that he can afford, I'd suggest that it'll be a very long process, if it ever happens at all.

I beggars belief that in 2017 people can still get away with serious crimes because they can afford to frustrate the legal process.

Nope. No ****ing chance, Brazil have a record of telling other countries to **** off basically. Italy and Brazil have a not so favourable record going way back, where Brazil have refused to extradite some very unsavoury people, including terrorists.

It's getting much, much worse than it ever was. It's not even subtle any more. At least they used to cover it up.

Although Brazil and Italy do have a treaty, they put national sovereignty first and have past history of this.

It took us about 32 years to get our hands on Biggs!

Aye true that. You would think that serious crimes like Rape and Murder would be expedited through the legal system and override any extradition barriers. Seems that sadly isn't the case though.

No mate won't happen. Brazil do now have something Italy want though. Maybe a deal could be struck if Italy have something Brazil want.

    All dodgy as **** really.
