Footbal-Rumours (not the most reliable source I know, but this one quite intrigued me) says that we are interested in Ravel Morrison of Man U. It intrigued me because he is supposedly a quality, young player in a similar mold to Chamberlain, but he's been in trouble with the law quite a bit - gang stuff, violence, that sort of thing. I read about him in a newspaper article saying that technically he was class, but his behavior had held back his progress at Man U. This season, we've had Lee Barnard alledgedly doing bad things in a nightclub, but on the pitch he's been a model professional. Does anyone know more about Morrison and could he change his ways with a change of scenery and some good man-management? I'd see him as a realistic signing seeing how lots of teams probably wouldn't touch him. I'm interested in seeing what people think.
Just of late we had those unfortunate episodes down in a Pompey nightclub. So having law breakers at the club would not be new. We also have a more recent thing that has yet to come to a conclusion. Should these players be given the chance again I don't know that answer. It would need someone very special to take them on. We have also the worry of, would they possibly lead some of the others down the same road if they started the same sort of antics again. Usually if gangs are involved you just don't drop out just because you are famous they will possibly want some of the action. If it was me making the decision to take them on, I would need to be convinced that their past had been put behind them. I have to admit that would not be an easy thing to do!!!!
To be fair, I wouldn't read much into that. The person who wrote it probably just saw the youth cup final 2nd leg the other day when he was brilliant and thought : "He'd do well for Saints". Great player and he'd do well but that site isn't good for reliability.
The article I read was from a while ago, think it may have been after the FA cup game against Crawley when Bebe and Obertan were both gash. I know the source is as dubious as it gets, bt just wondering whether we should be signing someone like him.
You're right there, how Bebe is a footballer is beyond belief. ã7.5 million for him and ã6 million for Hernandez. Say no more really. Ravel would be great though, class above the other night.
It's not televised on Sky anymore unfortunately, it used to be when we got far (one year to the semi's against Ipswich?). I went to one of the games at St Marys when the youth lads beat Thurrock, but unfortunately we lost on penalties like 13-12 to Bradford in the next round.
Class game that was, this youngster nobody had ever heard of going by the name of Theo Walcott completely ran the show.
Surely our u18s are better than Bradford, when you consider we are competing strongly against teams with far more resources in the league? Do we play with a different team fr the FAYC?
Well yeah they are, but I think the momentum was stopped as the game was called off at least once from memory so the team had to travel up and down the country to get to this game. Penalties are a lottery anyway. We finished 2nd in the top academies league, only behind Fulham on goal difference or by a few points and beat academies like Arsenal and Chelsea on a regular basis.
That was the final, it was played over 2 legs, Ipswich won it 3-2 AET. Pretty impressive line up now you look at it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_You..._Southampton_.281.E2.80.930.2C_2.E2.80.932.29
Forgot Owen Garvan played in that game!! Wish we'd held on to Tim Sparv now, doing very well over in the Dutch leagues.
