If Wes isn`t getting games he won`t be picked for R O I either, clearly Hughton doesn`t rate him so like Vaughan Becchio and Holt he will continue to be frozen out until he gets fed up and leaves. Big shame as i really like him .
Must admit I'm going off the idea of this. Sounds like he brings a huge ego with him which sounds unlike the rest of our squad, and seems the type to openly criticise the club if he's not getting his way. If he came and was keen to get his head down and use us as a platform to show he deserves a move to a bigger club, then fair enough, but not convinced he would. After seeing some stuff of Davy Propper online, I'd love us to bring him in from Vitesse. Unfortunately with their new billionaire owner they don't need to sell, but he's out of contract this summer so may feel it worth cashing in now if he wants to move on. We'd be a good stepping stone for him too.
I'm not a fan of the idea either, but everything seems to be pointing in that direction. The only thing I will say about Toivonen, this ego issue only seems to have happened since he wanted a move.
That's what I'm hoping is the case, although his reputation even before this latest saga might suggest he's not the easiest to get along with. Whilst a move here might get him back to his best, would he be happy if he didn't get a big move after 18 months or so? Liverpool were rumoured to be interested at one point, so if he's unhappy with the way we're playing after a short time, would he get sulky again to force his way out? Having said that, if we signed him for a knock-down £4-5m, at least if he was to sulk his way to a move we'd not lose too much in terms of a transfer fee. But he could well spend some time out of the first team sulking until a window comes, all that time taking wages and disrupting the team off the field. I'd rather sign someone younger and with less of an ego issue, even if they weren't quite the same player Toivonen could be for us. Him coming and Wes leaving would ring alarm bells, I'd rather if Wes was to leave someone less volatile came in, or Wes stayed so we've at least got one hard-working creative player.
I really hope not. What a depressing message that would send about our club and the style of football we can look forward to in the future.
Wes does bring a bit of quality at times and sees things that quite frankly others don't. I feel we would be losing something if he moved on but he does not command a regular starting slot and so on balance one can look at this from both points of view.
"We don't have a specialist attacking midfielder - I call them number 10s," said Lambert. "Players who are prepared to take a chance and take risks are important. If you can get somebody like that in your side, they can make things happen. "We don't have that special type of player who knows how to get into little pockets on the pitch and create chances. "They're worth their weight in gold if you can get them - and pretty dear!" We have one but just don't use him!
More or less what Kemp just said. This from the BBC transfer gossip page: Well, if Lambert has identified this glaring loophole in his Villa squad, why the hell hasn't Hughton, when we all know that the creative spark to provide chances for Hooper and RvW is a bit thin on the ground at NCFC In an odd way, I hope Wes does go to Villa - at least he'd know his guile and creativity was wanted and needed, not stifled on the bench most weeks.
He probably has, hence the reason he tried to sign an CAM in the summer. Just because he hasn't come out to talk to the media about it doesn't mean the club aren't working hard to sign one.
I suspect that there is a lot of truth to this rumour especially as PL is renowned for buying players he knows. Wes will also be keen as he realises that PL gets the best out of him. In actual fact the way Wes has been sidelined is one of my major gripes with Hughton.
That's all very well but as nothing came to fruition, why not utilise the existing players until such time as a genuine improvement can be sourced? All well and good shelling out £13.5m (plus Elmander's season long loan fee) on upgrading the striking dept, but if they're not getting the quality of service they need to convert..... Pointless going down this road again.
When we had a fit team, the midfield was Howson, Fer and Tettey plus 2 wingers; which left no space for Wes. I appreciate you're not alone in seeing Wes 'sidelined' and that on his day, he can be brilliant - but for me, he has been 'sussed' by opposing teams and doesn't warrant a place in the starting 11.
I don't think there is enough creativity with Howson, Fer and Tettey. To me Tettey and Fer are holding midfielders and Howson does not have the creative vision and flair that Wes has. I think if you play Tettey and Fer then you need an attacking creative outlet. I like Howson though and think for now it should be Howson (when back from injury), Fer and Wes.
I too like Howson, but he's not the creative player we need. For me, if we play with a lone striker and Howson also plays, his best position is when he pushes on in an attacking role. This however, means we'd need a ball-playing CM in behind Howson and the striker - possibly Fer, possibly Fox?? If you pick Fox to do the job, what do you tell Fer to do, and do you drop Tettey? Questions, questions.
Why is playing 2 wingers sacred? Surely with sufficient midfield cover the full backs can become wing backs. Also, how can you ' suss out ' a flair player like Wes unless he is instructed to do a specific job in a set system?
