    I am a bit mystified by your comment a we seem to have a surfeit of midfield players. If we need strengthening, I feel it is going to have to happen in the central defensive slots. Stephens and Yoshida performed really well last season but I think that the departure of Fonte and the problems with Van Dijk mean we need at least one quality signing in this position. I feel that the Polish lad is one for the future and maybe not ready for the Premiership yet judging by the comments I have read. I am surprised that Gardos is still here.

    Amongst our midfield players, we already have the likes of Davis and Romeu who match flair with steelier qualities . If there has been a fault in our midfield, it has been the lack of goals - something that has been a problem for a long while. If we are signing more midfield players, I wonder if this is a signal that we may offload someone. I have seen Clasie put in some decent performances but they have not been frequent enough and wonder if he might be moved on. I must admit, we need to strengthen the squad but another midfield player seemed the least expected arrival.

    Ian, firstly I agree with your comments on central defence. For the central midfield I think of Davis JWP Clasie and PEH. I see a lot of potential in JWP and PEH. However as of today 3 of those 4 are small, one paced, average in the tackle and hopeless at shooting. That's makes our central midfield amongst the weakest in the league for me. Behind them we have romeu and in front boufel and tadic Redmond so the rest of the midfield is ok.
