This rumour is gathering pace and there is speak of a medical today or tomorrow so I thought this deserves its own thread...£30m price tag would smash our current record of £18.1......
Copied this from TSW https://www.sport-express.ru/footbal...nsfer-1361849/ Bit of an update here. - Promes has a €30m release clause -He is on around £66k a week at Spartak, the proposal from Saints currently is £49k a week. Not sure whether that is net or gross. - Promes gets around 15% of any transfer. - "Promes is not too happy with the prospect of a struggle for survival - both this season and in the future. But there is a version with a flight. We need to pay tribute to the attacker: he would like to be, if not the top club, then at least in the team that claims every year for places in European competition. The current "Southampton" to such clearly does not apply. And it's impossible to buy a football player against his will." - Spartak won't sell for less than the clause as they are in three competitions and could get Champions League - "This season, Quincy is likely to end in "Spartacus." But whether the next one starts is a big question."
The comments didn’t sound like he has his case packed and ready with his “Guide to the South Coast,” but I live in hope
Can you really see us spending £30m on a player courted by some of the top teams in Europe and make him our highest paid player when we are in a relegation battle. Even if we agree a fee he knows he is going to be getting far better offers than Saints. He wants to be playing in Europe every season..
He plays for Spartak Moscow, so the idea that he is motivated by anything other than money doesn't really wash. He could go to Celtic and play in Europe every year, so I'm not buying that one. However, can't really see us coughing up the dosh.
If he comes here he knows he will play every game and put himself in the big teams shop windows,(a la Mane) if he signed to say Utd, city etc he will only make the bench.
I think we pay the dosh now, we have to move with the times or get left behind. Even Wolves in the championship tried to buy a player for £37m.
Pellegrino has been so desperate for a player with pace on the counter so far he's tried a player who's so out of form he hadn't scored for a million games, a player who has only just come back from a long term injury with 45 minutes of u23 football, a 17 yr old who thought he was playing for the u18's 48 hours before, and even gone ad far as using Redmond. I'd really like to see what he can do with Promes. Nothing to hide behind if he fails then. I said at the start of the window when talking about walcott that I can see us paying up to 25m for a player and we would spend aroud 40m this window so I can see this happening if its £26m and we can get the player onside.
It was noticeable yesterday that one thing we lacked was pace on the break. I'd have loved us to sign Walcott, but that ship has sailed unfortunately. We are however, in a position where we need to gamble so I'm praying we dig deep and roll the dice for once.
I don't really see it as a gamble to sign a player that has the qualities that our squad has been lacking for the past 18 months or so. Surely the gamble would be to not make this signing.
