Here you go ladies and gents - Fable's new one, Womb, that was debuted on 6Music this morning. Enjoy! (Though the clip they use in the link below really doesn't represent the track!)
Ah you're a gent sir. It's a lovely one. Bit of dub, sultry vocals. Got to love it. The video (out a week on Friday) is stunning.
I have to say that, more often than not, I buy my music without listening to it beforehand. The great Sonny Rollins famously described jazz as "the sound of surprise" and I really like the idea of listening to something and hearing the unexpected. I tend to rely a lot on reviews on websites and acknowledge that there are musicians I am familiar with whose music is compelling to me who tend to fulfil my expectations. On a few occasions you can be disappointed yet this is more than made up by the number of times I take a risk and buy something totally unfamiliar. By and large, I tend to collect jazz records. However, I do have a big collection of other stuff too albeit not too much pop music because I find that many albums are about 1/3rd fillers with material which is not really good enough to have deserved being released. If I read about someone and the article interests me, I would be tempted to buy a CD without listening.I also buy records where I have the manuscript and want to hear what the music sounds like, whether it is jazz compositions by Kenny Dorham or Scriabin piano Preludes. I feel that there is never enough time for me to explore all the music that I am interested in.
I do agree, Ian. After all, the great joy of buying an album, back in the day, wasn't listening to the couple of singles you'd heard already on the radio, it was getting a first listen of the ten other tracks you hadn't heard yet. Sadly the element of surprise (and of buying music) has largely gone! We're releasing an album by Fable (in late September/early October) but we're also being told we're mad, and we should just release single tracks. It's a funny old world right now!
Great song! Marcella Detroit (aka Marcy Levy) was a back up singer for Eric Clapton on many albums in the 70s and early 80s I seem to remember.
I put a couple of Shakespeares Sister videos above because Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit reunited in 2019 after Detroit was sacked from the band in 1993. Here is one since they got back together Siobhan Fahey is now 62 and Marcella Detroit is 68. In this video they take the micky out of the Stay video.
Cheers, Marv! I really like that - Marcy still has a great voice - even at 68. I think it’s great to be comfortable to be able to take the mick out of your younger selves!
Well if you like Marcella Detroit Dave I loved this solo single not too long after Shakespeares sister
