Here are a few tasters from Welsh Singer/Songwriter, Marina's new album, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, out this week. Her lyrics are always interesting and thought provoking and she has a great ear for a tune...
Unbeliveable! This beautiful lady is 70 today!!!! I heard this song today and thought this has Jim Steinman written all over it as it sounds as if Meatloaf could have sung this Sure enough it is! I am not feeling quite so ancient knowing Bonnie is now into her 70s. (9) Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero (Official HD Video) - YouTube
Huh, I never realised Marina and the Diamonds was Welsh. For some reason I always assumed she was like Greek or something, I'm not sure why. Maybe the name Marina sounds vaguely Greek? I got her first album (before she dropped the Diamonds part) which had some good songs, but my favourite two are: I should add some Marina to my gigantic spotify playlist (which currently has 19 hours of music roughly, but I keep adding songs as I remember them).
As we are on a Welsh "love-in" how about this beauty from the Stereophonics! (9) Stereophonics - Song For The Summer - YouTube
This is a song I really love, by an absolute musical genius. George Harrison created music that reached out and touched all of us at some point in our lives.....
A thoroughly enjoyable demolition of Oasis, for those that think they're pretty awful. https://kaptainkulk.medium.com/on-oasis-the-gallaghers-d4abcb889d59
There were a couple of ok songs on Definitely Maybe but after that it was just rehashed riffs and nonsensical lyrics and Liam aping Lennon's vocals on Rain.."Sonsheeiiiinnneee". Noel admits that his lyrics are gibberish and just adds words he thinks sound good. Great Songwriter my arse!
And the perfect song for a beautiful summers day ….. though it looks like many English cricketers have been leaving the crease early recently
Here's the story of the Grandaddy of Folk Rock/Jangle Pop songs which I instantly fell in love with at the first sound of Roger McGuinn's iconic 12 string Rickenbacker intro and I still love it now...
