Liverpool's Premier League title win will earn Southampton about £2.5m, as four players have add-on clauses from when the Saints sold them to the new champions. (Telegraph)
Did buy the black and grey away kit a couple of season back with the Virgin Media logo. I like that one alot. But not otherwise a fan of new kits.
Picked up on Twitter, former Liverpool tech director, Damion Comolli is heading up an American consortium looking to buy a club, Saints is one on their shopping list! Buckle up for another rough ride
Too true.... what baffles me is how we are not an attractive proposition to someone with a spare few hundred million quid. I know lightning doesn’t strike twice and the chances of another Marcus are slim to none.... but as a club that hasn’t yet realised it’s potential, has a loyal fan base, Southampton isn’t too shabby a place to be (you can park your yacht there), the stadium is risk free, the training ground is brand spanking new..... manager with a long term plan, a finally settled management structure.....
I suspect Newcastle with 50k supporters is a prime target but think the Saudis will get that so we are probably next in line and a lot cheaper
I don't think any middling to lower Prem club is good value at a couple of hundred million really. If I was spending that sort of money on a football club I'd be looking at Sunderland.
Agreed.... but you’d think smaller to start with is better.... otherwise the expectations for instant success and every transfer being Ronaldo or Bale would be too high... spending a relatively small amount in comparison could get us reaching the heady heights of top ten regularly...!!
You’re right to an extent.... but we were lucky with our journey up.... the road could be drought with difficulty.... just look at Pimpey.....
Bit different for them though as they were fan owned until one or two seasons ago so were never seriously aiming for the top flight. Whereas Sunderland with their fanbase should be able to spend more than any 3rd (and then 2nd) division club even without added investment. Wolves and Leicester are other good examples, though there's obviously plenty of ones who haven't managed it,
True.... hadn’t considered that.... I’ve just always found it a bit odd that we are 99.9% of the time we are always sidelined as the bidders drive to London.... you would e thought there was something a bit attractive.....
