Trouble is that what Ralph said was actually true, but I think what he said was misconstrued, I think he meant that seeing as Dean was asking for a review it was highly likely to become a red, I don't think he meant that it was specifically Dean, if he had said that VAR had called it rather than Dean, you are saying he wouldn't have got the charge?

The unknown VAR Official was Peter Bankes! Arteta was saying that he didn't do his job correctly, I agree with him, it should have been a red card. Guess who we have got for Watford!

The bit he was I think charged for was when he said we always have a problem with Dean. That's what got him into trouble. Now, yes we have had issues in the past but as a manager you can't say that. That attacks his integrity. Mike Dean also advised Paul Tierney to give us a pen at Newcastle this season. Whatever your opinion is of Dean he thought JWP's challenge was worthy of a red card. Ralph was rightly charged - he wouldn't have said what he said if another referee was on VAR and came to the same conclusion.

Still the problem of inconsistency, when Referees/VAR get it wrong there is no come back. These decisions can cost a Manager his job.

These managers also get paid a fortune. They know the score. VAR has at least, I think, eliminated the howlers.

VAR used correctly is great in my view, but the use of slow motion is flawed because it changes the dynamics and doesn't always show the truth. I doubt the fine is a big deal in the scheme of things, but the "crime" goes on record and will be used against them in the future. We have Kevin Friend tomorrow with no VAR, I think he has become a better Referee with the help that VAR has given him, but any mistakes tomorrow won't be corrected.

The fact that Mike Dean is a clueless toxic idiot who shouldn’t be put in charge of a school football match seems to be the elephant in the room here. If he wasn’t put in charge of Premier League matches, or on VAR duty, it would mean a few less incidents like the JWP one, or the Jan Bednarek red card, would happen.

I do agree Ralph shouldn’t have spoken out, but let’s not forget the bigger problem.

TBF the JWP one was probably a red.

Agreed. It probably should have stayed with on field decision but I can understand why it was given unlike the Bednarek one. Although Graham Scott had a big say in that one as VAR (who is pretty much Lee Mason with hair).

In hindsight I agree, but the 3 match ban punishment is excessive for what was a mistimed tackle, the Palace / Arsenal tackle was malicious and could have been a leg breaker and only got a yellow.

I don’t watch as much football as some, but has the on field ref reviewed a VAR decision and NOT reversed his original decision?
Rightly or wrongly that is what I thought Ralph was referring to, more than having a go at the VAR official.
Who didn’t think JWP wasn’t going to be red carded, once the ref went to the screen?
Who thought the ref at our game with City, wouldn’t change his mind, once asked to review the penalty incident?
Sometimes the ref needs to tell the VAR official that he is sticking with his original decision and not allow himself to be swayed, certainly when he hasn’t made an “obvious error”.

It has happened a few times where the referee has stuck with his decision.

Yes, I've said they should have stuck with the yellow that was given on field as it wasn't a clear and obvious error.

I've been once, back in the year we after we went up (2012) ... atmosphere was as dead as a graveyard. So much for the famous Annfield atmosphere, which I still maintain to this day is completely overhyped.

Still, enjoy! It's very much one of those historic grounds that all football supporters would like to tick off the list.
