In York for the weekend on the lash. Staying next to the Knavesmire. Decent pub recommendations welcome. Dingo Dollar ew @ 14/1 for me in the Hennessy. Ran well in this last year, is better off in the ratings with Elegant Escape who finished ahead of him and trainer reaches for a bit of headgear to eek out a bit more.
Fairyhouse 11.50 Cracking Smart was a young horse who caught my attention 2 years ago but got injured and missed Cheltenham. Hasn't set the World alight since his return, running unplaced in graded hurdles and this is his 4th attempt over the big jumps having been left behind by Faugheen last time out (levels). But I'm expecting the patience with him will be repaid at some stage. Nothing remotely in the same class as Faugheen here so could run a big race at a big price
The ground at Newbury today did not seem as soft as they were expecting and with no rain forecast the drying ground could suit Some Chaos who is still available at 80/1 with 5 places being paid with Bet365. He’s won 4 of his 6 starts over fences, was 2nd in another and the only time he was unplaced he was struck into. Looks a wide open ‘Hennessy’ this year and he’s worth a second look at those odds
It's been a while since I've been out drinking in York but if its still there and still the same then Fibbers is a great little pub. Always had a lot of bands on and when it hasn't always played good music and served good beer. Good crowd no bell ends
The Ladbrokes Trophy is perhaps not the greatest renewal and we could see a biggish-priced winner as a result. One that interests me greatly is Yorkhill at around 28/1 this evening. The 2017 JLT winner has always shown a tendency to jump left so going left-handed is clearly the time to be with him. He has always gone better on a decent surface and had a nice pop round at Gowran to get him spot on for this. He has only really tried these longer trips on soft ground so I would hope that he can get it here on good / good-soft and he obviously has that touch of class if everything comes together. No more than a speculative e/w punt in an open heat.
Not the major dish of the day but Bangor will be hosting me today. Shoes and now Xmas presents for the kids remain high on the priority list so any insights would be most welcome ! Have a great day everyone ... wahoooooo
Morning 3.40 Newbury-Tree Of Liberty Each Way @ 16-1 [Ladbrokes] 4 Places Pretty sure he is better than form figures suggest
EW Lucky 31 and acca: 1:50 Newbury - Dan McGrue 6/1 2:25 Newbury - Epaatante 4/1 3:00 Newbury - De Rasher Counter 10/1 3:20 Newcastle - Jonniesofa 5/1 3:40 Newbury - Chesterfield 10/1 Also had a little ew single on Beware The Bear 50/1 in the 3:00 at Newbury and reverse fc with the one in my lucky 31.
Looks a day mainly for favs there. Here's my attempt at the card: 12:10 - Ballymoy 4/7 12:45 - Zolfo 11/8 1:20 - Mr Caffrey 5/1 1:55 - Northofthewall 13/8 2:30 - Jelski 11/10 3:05 - Vereina 11/8 3:35 - Chazza 5/2 Enjoy your day.
I think McCain and Kennedy could have a good day there. They team up in 4 races and all look to have a decent chance. Might be worth a speculative e/w acca and double combos. Have a good day and good luck. Always reminds me of the classic best mans speech gag... "I do hope that the bride and groom enjoy their honeymoon in Wales. I assume that’s where they’re going anyway… When I asked what he was doing after the wedding, he said he was going to Bangor for a fortnight."
Imperial Alcazar up at Newcastle is a bet again. Paddy goes up rather than riding at Newbury. Form looks decent from Aintree with Coconut Splash running a big race when falling at the last yesterday. Big Bad Bear won at Wetherby and Lossiemouth ran well at Ayr since. It’s a good race today but I think he will follow up.
with the pipe yard having a good spell , Daklondike 25/1 in the big one will surely try and make all !
Chan, I know York pretty well. These are worth a look today/tonight.. Stonegate area.. The House of Trembling Madness (theres 2, both serve decent beers) Evil Eye Lounge Kennedys Walmgate area Good for open air drinking - https://www.sparkyork.org Cosy club The Hop The Bluebell Then theres loads of chain pubs down by the river..Revolution, Yates', Slug & Lettuce..where you'll bump into all the hen do's Have a good day, cracking day out is York.
I’m giving lady buttons a chance against buveur b’air. That kissing spine surgery is a big no no for me.
