10/03/2016 : Rangers have Barrie McKay and Billy King in the U21s and several in the U17s, but no players in Gordon Strachan's first team squad. I just hope none of our players get crocked in these friendlies !!! Rangers FC - Gers Players Called Up First team internationals. So there we have it. Scotland get two good results against two very good teams. What did we learn? Well in last night's match young McGinn of Hibs was awarded motm. Young Tierney of Celtic must have been the next best player on the park. Two very young Scottish players who were standout amongst the usual 30 something suspects. Strachan claims he is building for the future but he started last night's game with 6 players over 30 including Steven Whittaker who hasn't kicked a ball this year for his club and a 35 year old CB who has also been used sparingly at Brighton this season. The majority of both squads for these games are over the hill failures. It's time to jettison the lot of them and give youth a chance.
What we also know is that friendlies count for **** all. Good teams raise their game in competition. It's in their mentality. In competition against the Czechs and the Danes we would have got walloped because they have higher gears to go to. We don't.
Agree with the last 2 comments, Strachan can't see it unfortunately, we were **** last night. Brown does nothing and guys like Snodgrass who show consistently what they can do down south should be in the team.
12/05/2016 : These call-ups for Scotland's international friendlies will give neither Lee Wallace nor Barrie McKay much of a break this year, with Rangers' pre-season starting on June 18th. Rangers FC - Wallace and McKay Called Up Sunday 29/05/2016 : Italy 19:45 Scotland Saturday 04/06/2016 : France 20:00 Scotland
25/05/2016 : SSN have just announced that Lee Wallace and Alan Hutton have withdrawn from the Scotland Squad. I don't recall anyone duffing-up Alan Hutton !
For the record, Lee Wallace withdrew from the Scotland squad due to a hamstring injury. Non-result, 29/05/2016 : Italy 1-0 Scotland
10/06/2016 : Changes to the Laws of the Game will come into effect in Euro 2016. Getting rid of the triple jeopardy of free-kick/penalty, red card and automatic suspension for denying a goalscoring opportunity has been a long time coming. It will now only apply to deliberate denying and not for unintended contact. Amongst other changes, injured players will not have to leave the field and then return. Skysports - Euro 2016: Triple punishment, kick-offs, penalties - new IFAB football laws on show in France These changes will affect Scotland and Rangers (and all teams) from next Season.
22/08/2016 : The first borefest (international break) is fast approaching. Gordon Strachan has selected the Scotland squad, including Barrie McKay (Rangers) and Alan Hutton (Aston Villa).
