Nothing against Southampton (good fans), but if he goes there, I hope they miss out on promotion and we win the play-offs. That'll learn him.
You must be offering him a fortune. We were at 28k (apparently) and you've offered him enough to even consider moving out of his home. I'm thinking closer to 40k p/w.
absolutely no way would that be the case, reports saying we are offering a lower wage then Leicester offered him
How though? He's said himself he doesn't want to move and it'll take a lot for him to move. It can't be because of your league position because Fulham were interested. We offered very good wages yet he declined them. It's a strange one, whatever way you look at it.
If we're going to ask the question 'Why Southampton and not us?' then I think one look at the league table would answer that question. Billy Sharp will want PL football as soon as possible and in going to Southampton, he has the best chance of getting that whereas if he came to us, it would be unlikely that we would do it this season and would be instead building for next year. By which time, Billy could have moved to the PL in the summer anyway. With Southampton, he has a decent chance of going up this year and there was no certainty of a PL club coming in for him so maybe the risk ratio of Promotionremier League Bids was such at Southampton that he felt it was what gave him the best chance of playing in the league he wants to be playing in next season. Maybe the geography of the situation is confusing but (as MITLBC says) the Adkins connection must have also had an impact.
The Adkins connection is something I hadn't considered. But Fulham had apparently bid for him (less than what we did) so if he wanted PL football then why didn't he push a move for them? I have nothing against Southampton or Sharp but I see it as very strange.
fulham didn't make an offer, maybe he didn't fancy playing for leicester, the adkins factor, he probably believes he can help us reach the prem
The last time I saw this many hurt foxes I was wearing my little red coat & on the back of a horse. Don't take it so personally, we had this deal almost tied up in the summer, but the situation changed due to some very personal reasons for him. Some clubs just tick more boxes, & I would say that Adkins was the deal setter in this case. You look well useful now, so you shouldn't worry, Beckford looks like a new player!
I don't think is anyone is fussed, as you say, Beckford is looking sharp now (pun intentional) and we were not really in need for a striker. But the sudden change of heart is what has struck me as strange.
That is not the way Cortese does things. We have a wage structure in place and do not offer stupid money to players (like Arsenal). Unlike Arsenal, we actually keep our best players (apart from Chamberlain) and we've managed to attract Sharp by offering less money than you.
Saints fan in peace : Lambert and lallana will definately not be going anywhere , they have both very recently signed new long contracts (lallana 4 1/2 years ) and lambert has just said he wants to end his career at Saints . Players come and go and contracts and loyalty mean less every year that goes by , but I really dont think Lambert and Lallana are going anywhere soon . Good luck for the rest of the season , just not at our expense
