Sunderland visit Sheffield Wednesday in the SkyBet League One Last time out Sunderland lost at Rotherham and Wednesday drew away at Cheltenham. The Black Cats slumped to their worst defeat of the season at the New York stadium. Lee Johnson’s Sunderland were second best to a dominant Rotherham side and conceded five goals for the first time since the 4-5 home defeat to Coventry. Aiden McGeady will sit this one out after being dismissed at the weekend, and Denver Hume is out for 6 to 8 weeks. Sheffield Wednesday conceded a 92nd minute equaliser as Matty Blair scored two late goals at either end to ensure that Cheltenham and Wednesday shared the points at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium. The Owl’s fans are already questioning the tactics that Darren Moore has used in the last few games and his suitability for the job. Lee Johnson: "It's three points that we wanted but I don't think we showed that anywhere near enough. I know that the fans will be hurting badly. In the big picture of the season, we have to learn the lessons, but we know that we've already had a couple of those and the pattern has continued.” "So whether it's a change of personnel, a change of tactics, additions in January, there's clearly something that we've got to snuff out to be more solid in the times when we're under the cosh.” "As individuals we've to get back to basics, and we've got to be better. Our big losses seem like a capitulation. Today was a really bad one and it's something that we have to limit." "We have got a relatively youthful back four, we didn't recruit a right back, and Winny has been absolutely fantastic for us. We've been unlucky with a couple of injuries, obviously.” "Niall Huggins had a serious injury and it now looks as if Denver Hume will be out for six to eight weeks.” "He hasn't been available much for us this season. We have got tactical flexlibilty and players who can play there, but sometimes that can fall away from the football that you're trying to play." Darren Moore: We are frustrated today. I thought that we did so well to get back in the game and fight back from one goal down and get in front. We broke away for a chance. We had three against one. I have not seen it back but I think we maybe could have capitalised on that because it was a good scoring opportunity to go 3-1. At 2-1 in the game, we felt comfortable. I am disappointed to concede from a set play. I am very frustrated. It comes down to concentration and we will continue to work on it and get those first contacts on it. I believe when we get the sufficient players back that we need to we can look at those system changes and everything else. I am happy to play a three or four and different systems when called upon. We had a squad today and I was pleased with how they battled and I have got to manage their frustrations because we have got another game on Tuesday night that will be so different to this game. Hopefully the team and the manager learn from their mistakes and we get back to winning ways as soon as possible. Wednesday have drawn their last four games but I think that we'll win this one. I’m going for a 2-1 away win. Live Stream https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/live-video Ha’way the Lads
Just the tonic we need, this thread. No reason we can't win this game and get back on track. Great support again so let's entertain the troops and take three points.
Great thread as always. Gutted on Saturday but I always thought Saturday was the harder of the 2 games. We have to lean from Saturday and show more steel and determination. It will be another difficult game but I actually fancy us in this one. Narrow away win. Keep the faith lads and lasses.
4000+ making the trip isn’t there? I’m not confident we’ll respond but I really hope we do. It’s vital to get back on track ASAP.
Of course it was. Rotherham are a top side for this level, it’s madness that they were 14/1 for the title a few months back. please log in to view this image
After the worst display of the season things can only get better, big effort required from all involved to get back on track OaU.
Another spot on thread RTB i was very disappointed with the Rotherham result, so didn't comment a lot until i had calmed down, what a difference a day makes, so now onwards and upwards, the whole team will be rearing to go and put in a topclass performance 0-2 to the lads
RTB Must win. Hope Stewart is still fit... Not sure myself who will start, Hume and Hughins both out for a while... Mcgeady is on a one match ban. The team collectively need to pull on their big boy pants (notice no swear words) leave their frilly knickers behind and show skill and fight.... stop being soft touches, this does not mean stupid silly fouls!
I'd be making a few changes for this game. Couple of them need to come out the side for a couple of weeks and others aren't up to the standard. Early days, but Dajaku is giving me Jordan Jones vibes..... Hoffmann Winchester Flanagan Alves Cirkin Evans Neil Gooch Embleton O'Brien Stewart Subs: Burge, Doyle, Younger, Sohna, Dajaku, Pritchard, Wearne
I think we'll put Saturday behind us and get something from this one. No reason why we can't. Dealt with QPR quite successfully last week, didn't we?
HA'WAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM Got to put the last game behind us, pick ourselves up and push on. A test now of what they're made of. Fingers crossed.
