Even the commentators were laughing at them. Our set pieces are poor in general tbh, we never look like scoring from them.

They really ought to be an anomaly.

Having a couple of well practiced corner takers, ideally one on each foot, as well as a well drilled mob in the box can easily add 10-15 goals a year.

It's madness that teams don't put more emphasis on it.

Did no one learn from moneyball!?

Once in a blue moon to mix it up is fine. But for some reason our short corners are worse than our long ones! <laugh><laugh><laugh>:emoticon-0106-cryin

Pretty sure I read something the other day that teams have got so good at defending corners you are now statistically more likely to concede from one than score from one.

Might have been at top flight level mind.

Would be interesting to know actually. (I might be using interesting in a loose term here). But in the 2 minutes following us taking a corner this season, how many have we scored versus conceded.

Thought Grant was out go to corner taker as we had some success from his crosses last season.
Is he still taking them or is LJ giving anybody a go.

I don't mind a short corner when it's on. If no one is watching the short option you can get a better angle and position for the cross and it makes sense. We just seem to do it regardless though. Yesterday we did one when the only player we had to pass it to was pretty much being marked. Their lad simply took the ball. Even if our lad had received the pass he'd have been under so much pressure that it would have likely been less effective than just crossing it in. We need to get more basic footballing intelligence sometimes

  12. Spot on mate. Short corners have a chance of working if the players are intelligent and skillful enough to use them properly. Long corners require someone to be able to hit the right place in the pen area more or less every time....something Grant seems unable to do. I think there is little else more frustrating than seeing a corner or a free kick so badly executed it fails to get past the first defender.

Its beyond me how a professional football team can be so bad at corners.

They should be embarrassed by that last night. Kids football is better.

We must get better at corners and free kicks... they are hopeless atm. Ffs what is training practice etc for.
Leads, Mcgeady, Maguire and Embleton seem to he the main kick takers, they need to stay on after school and practice a lot more. Also LJ to stop being clever just do the basics... ie get the frigging ball in the area away from the keeper.. simples!

Grant looked the answer last season, but not this, Its a lost art at SAFC, Embleton looks the best bet atm., but it does need some attention as we get a lot of corners in most games, back to the drawing board LJ.
