Should Virgil remain captain?

OK that's fair, I understand the viewpoint even if I don't agree with it. As I mentioned earlier I think the only way we get to never selling top players is by selling top players.

I think he will play as well. I just don't know how long it will take him to get up to speed after so long away from PL football. Whether or not he will do a similar thing in January, possibly meaning he misses Jan as well remains to be seen.

 

Don't think MP2 has a worse hand, we have hoedt and a more developed Stephens. We now have 2 CDM's and gabbiadini from the start.
Austin also fit. Don't really consider j rod and Gallagher, the latter needs real game time every week and j rod was never going to make it here.

 

Horst is replacement for Fonte.
Bednarek is replacement for Gardos.

We still haven't replaced JRod and have 3 strikers, one of which is Long who rarely scores.

In my book, that is worse than Puel had and still doesn't address the failure of not signing attacking players which was the main issue last season.

 

MP2 was asked about Virgil being the Captain....he went into depths of obscurity, but I'm sure that he implied the team picked the captain. Not sure that he meant literally....may have meant that a leader arose* like Venus from the waves.

*very apt...my computer wrote that as 'leader arse' until I corrected it.

Bertrand says no problems in dressing room v Virgil....not surprised really. Players are itinerant workers, so are more understanding of the situation than fans who are trapped by loyalty. The situation is what it is and they have to work with him....and they will be very pleased to see him if he improves the team position.*

Your main issue now is when footballers with #ambition say they want to compete in the CL, you can't even offer them the opportunity to finish top half of the PL

Times claimed that Pellegrino wanted to sell VVD as he was fed up with the situation....I can understand that...he could have done without the distraction and could have used the money. He also wouldn't fully understand Saints' feelings about the situation as he wasn't here when our other players left.

 

This story needs to die now. Its bad enough we have to start it again in June.

But we would have done if we had openly tried to sell him. It was MP2's decision to banish VVD....think he just didn't want the distraction. I can accept that he wouldn't care as much as we did....whether the article is guessing or not, I have no problem believing it.
