After reading this, I was suprised to find Shrewsbury was not the birthplace of Bill and Ben. The town was the early capital of the Kingdom of Powys, known to the ancient Britons as Pengwern, signifying "the alder hill"; and in Old English as Scrobbesburh (dative Scrobbesbyrig), which may mean either "Scrobb's fort" or "the fortified place in the bushes". This name gradually evolved in three directions, into Sciropscire, which became Shropshire; into Sloppesberie, which became Salop/Salopia (an alternative name for both town and county), and into Schrosberie, which eventually became the town's name, Shrewsbury. Its later Welsh name Amwythig means "fortified place". Charles Darwin was from Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury School magazine was edited by Richard Ingrams, Willie Rushton, Christopher Booker and Paul Foot in the 1950s, and went on to become Private Eye. Shrewsbury won the Welsh Cup six times, a record for an English club, and this record will stand for ever as English-based clubs have not been able to take part since early 1990s. Shrewsbury Flower Show is the "Longest Running Horticultural Show in The World. Shrewsbury had the oldest McDonald's in the world, dating back to the 13th Century, until it closed in 2017. The battle of Shrewsbury, between Henry IV and Harry Hotspur was the first in which English archers fought each other on English soil, and it reaffirmed the effectiveness of the longbow
Two more wins and I think we are at least in the top six. Just as an aside I linked my membership with the club shop this week and apparently I've £210 to spend, so well worth doing.
Oh yeah. 2-0 city same team. Next week no magennis or whyte. So rest the other three as soon as poss.
Are you the fella that travelled up from portsmouth every game, I remember chatting to you in admiral as you'd missed the first train. Much respect
As you would expect it's not easy . You email the club with the barcode number on your membership card and your email address. They asked me for my email even though I emailed them in the first place.
Clever. As the season draws on, with fixture congestion for some, it could be survival of the fittest, as we evolve into a title winning side. Another City win. 3-1
He used to post regularly on CI. Then very infrequently on here. I seem to recall someone informing him they were a better fan than him because he had a different point of view on something.
I could see why he would be upset by that. For me he was an inspiration as are all those who travel from afar to attend the matches. The atmosphere at burton for example was brilliant and you just cant beat it
Ta. Couldn't remember his name on here. It was Sunn40 on CI. I didn't know him but know people who have met him. Sounded a top bloke.
