He is correct in so much that it isn't full on a regular basis, but our crowds are fantastic given the deprivation of the area and average income of our fans. Whats also 'odd' are the Palace Ultras
Our support, at their place, is always better than they manage here ... ... we can't always fill such a huge stadium, I doubt Palace ever would. Jordan is talking about a match nearly two decades ago ffs, very odd comments.
49k does flatter us abit, but considering how much misery we have to endure i dont think we do too bad with our average attendances. The stadium was built that size as an ongoing project to make and establish us as a Premiership team and rest assured if we were a top half Premiership team we would sell out every week. Its abit harsh for him to question our attendances when we have spent so many years enduring shyte football.
Our attendances are magnificent given the lack of 'success'. Murray only put the North upper on because he wouldn't have got planning permission once the aquatic centre was built.
IIRC we had 10,000 more at the SOL than they had down there. Their average, that season, was only 19,000 with gates as low as 15,000 ... ... short memory you have Mr Jordan.
To be fair to him - he said it very respectfully. He was basically saying we haven't got it right yet, in response to somebody saying we need to get back where we were. His point was we can get back even higher as we've never been in a position where we regularly filled the stadium
I also give him extra credit because he said all this about 20 seconds after calling Stewart Donald out for his crap ownership of us and that KLD sounds good.
“I don’t mean to be disrespectful to them and this is not me attempting to be so,” Jordan explained. “But their support is very odd.” That's like saying, 'with all due respect you're a weirdo'. Saying you're not being disrespectful, then being disrespectful doesn't wash with me mate.
He's right though. Just look at the pompey 2nd leg attendance a few years ago. It was a massive game and the ground was half empty. Also how many cup ties, even in later rounds, have had crap numbers. But then suddenly there a million 'super' fans claiming to be hard done by when not getting tickets to finals, where we're they in the early rounds? He's bellend who's just doing it for social media interactions but he's using some legit ammo
He brings it up every time Sunderland are mentioned on that crappy show. It was a bigger attendance than his club will ever have the southern ****er.
I don't give a shiny **** about Palace though I'm talking about Sunderland. Add hypocrite to my earlier description of him if you wish but it doesn't change the facts of what he's on about.
Hates Newcastle,Jordan. I can't really see much wrong with what he said. I'm not sure anyone states we get 40k plus regularly. As for the 2004 stuff, it's a tad odd to mention it but I guess he has, because he was involved with a club that played us for a chance to get into the Premier league and has experienced it first hand with a particular team rather than watching it on the telly. None starter for me. However, over the next few season, I expect us to be a topic on talkSPORT more often than not. FTM
He's right, we are odd. Years of chod performances, record relegations, even 2 consecutive bar steward relegations to div 3 for only the second time in our entire history, and we follow this up with record attendances for this level. That is odd.
Considering he's talking about the 2003/2004 season, the season following us being humiliatingly relegated from the Premier League with a then comfortably record low points total, that has seen the bulk of our star players (SKP, Sorenson, Reyna etc) leave, with much tightened financial constraints imposed, our support in numbers was bloody fantastic that season. FFS we nearly went down as the worst team in history for the number of losses on the bounce! And I was at that game, our support on the day was tremendous, we really got behind the lads and it was a pretty good attendance of about 35000, way more than Selhurst Parks capacity. How many other clubs would have pulled a gate in like that after what we'd been through in just under 2 years of the **** we'd had? It was only a ****ty refereeing decision allowing a goal to stand after a foul on our keeper in the 90th minute that let them in. And they still barely laid a glove on us in extra time when they had a man advantage. As you say, it's an odd comment about a game nearly 20 years ago without taking into context what the circumstances were at the time.
I'm sick to f**k of our support being criticised ... it's bloody incredible and has been for decades.
