I believe the plan is to In football it's nothing like the real world, prices, wages etc. Smithies is a very good keeper and a good fair fee should be the only way forward. If Cardiff want him for 4mill then don't sell. On your rationale if Cardiff offered 1 million and are the only team to bid we would sell him as that's what they are willing to pay, therefore his market price.. I think not.
Whilst one can understand players wanting to play at the highest level, and to maximise their earnings in a short career, you can't lose sight of the fact that we have lost two of our best players (three if you count Onuoha), with no incoming talent currently in sight. That is a little depressing. I think Smithies will do well at Premier League level and we are lucky enough to have some promising cover in that position. However, I have my doubts about Robinson stepping up: I can't see many Premier League teams wanting someone of his physique to play at CB. As a full back, he is not very quick and he doesn't have many tricks in his locker to beat a man going forward. I wish them both well.
That would make it even harder to stomach. In my opinion, Smithies has been one of our best ever goalkeepers, to be mentioned in the same breath as Parkes and Seaman.
Just seems very low. How come other clubs pay stupid money for average players yet we sell a very good player for peanuts? Annoying. I hope it is not a sign of desperate need for cash at any price.
Would be gutted to see him go, especially at such a low price. Certainly a £5m+ player in my book. Curious to see if TF has answered any tweets in relation to this one...
Just read on the official QPR twitter feed that Smithies did not go to Portugal. "Smithies has remained behind as discussions continue regarding his future". Sounds like he is 100% going to me...just hope we get a decent amount and that we can re-invest the fee/wages in new players. Shame to see him go, but fair play to him as he is certainly good enough for the Prem, probably good enough for the England squad too.
Pleased for him and he deserves his chance in the Premiership. Hopefully he won't end up spending most of his time warming the bench.
Then £3 or £4 Mill is rubbish - we don't have to sell that cheap - make him see out his contract. Is he on big money?- time for Tony to play a bit of hardball with the sheepshaggers
I would've thought he'd be worth around £6m, I see Cardiff are going to sign Bobby Reid from Bristol City for around £10m.
Sign that we are getting things right when we are selling players at a profit, even if the profit isn't as much as some would have expected.
A poor sale price is certainly the common agreement - and I would agree. Forget the £500k as that’s no guarantee. If we want money in the bank, make them pay the full and reasonable prIce if they want the player. Poor decision making at the top in my opinion - Baaadiff can afford a higher price - and we can afford to hang it out as we have keepers.
