Remember getting our first colour telly for the olympics in 1974 or 76 ?? a special deal from Redifussion.
So long ago I had to google 1970's tv series. The only ones I remember watching with any sense of anticipation were MASH and Columbo.
I used to religiously watch Robinson Crusoe, I recently saw it was on and watched it for old time sake, absolutely nothing happened and I couldn't remember what I found so appealing.
My dad got us our first colour telly on the morning of the 1968 Cup Final Everton v. WBA. My favourite player was Alan Ball so it was brilliant to see him in player (ginger an all). Happy times. I was 10
Remember the overdubved episodes they had on a kids programme inn the 1980s? My two were only 8 or 9 at the time and I used to watch the programme with them just for these clips. Just been having a look at them on YouTube.
i discovered this very fact last night ... i was on a Wiki binge after struggling to watch Porridge (the new concoction) and it had me moving from the lifes and deaths of 70s comedy Stars from AAHMum , LOTSWine Porridge etc etc .... the show i loved and is still funkaaaay RENTAGHOST
The bloke who played Catweazle, can't remember his name, was more significant for me as the excellent Crow Man. No doubt an age thing.
Those two, plus Colditz, Secret Army, Reggie Perrin and a few others as well. Looking back it was a pretty decent time for TV. In those pre VCR days you had to make and effortb arrange things to see the programmes as well or miss them. I can remember pubs emptying early when some programmes were on. They even altered church service times because of some. Nowadays thecability to record and watch when you want had changed things. Being born in 1950 and seeing the introduction of TV and all these things which were new experiences and seeing aspects of life around the world you would not otherwise have seen was a marvellous experience. TV in its early days the also tried to educate and inform without dumbing things down.
