Very possible. A lot were at the time. There was no HP when my dad got our first TV in 1954. Must have been some sort of rental or deferred payment scheme as I remember him telling me it cost 8 weeks wages. It had a 10" screen housed in a cabinet about the size of a modern upright fridge freezer. Took about 10 minutes to warm up to watch the only channel available. Yet it was viewed with more wonder than than a 62 inch state of the art modern TV with access to hundreds of channels is by a young kid nowadays.
Pretty Flamingo by Manfred Mann was the only no 1 UK hit Jack Bruce played on. Radio stations in some areas in the USA refused to play it because a flamingo was a term for a prostitute in some Hispanic communities. This might be the only chance I get to share that little nugget stored away in the memory bank.
Budgie with Adam Faith - I always remember the local rogue (Charlie Endle?) Looking at a photo of Budgie on a beach and commenting "That's a most salubrious bit of beach there Budgie. Torremelinos?" Budgie replied "Bridlington actually."
